Chapter 903: Do Not Be Mad Anymore

“Daddy.”

When Roxanne, Archie, and Benny disappeared, Estella looked up at her father.

At her voice, Lucian lowered his gaze to meet hers. “Yes?”

Puffing out her cheeks, Estella demanded, “Did you make Ms. Jarvis mad again?”

Tonight, Ms. Jarvis barely spoke to him. Despite Archie, Benny, and Estella’s efforts, she hardly looked his way. This frustrated Estella. He’d promised to forgive her and never anger her again, but he hadn’t kept his word.

Discerning her thoughts, Lucian frowned, about to answer, when he remembered James’ advice. He paused before replying, “We have some conflicts at work.”

Estella’s face fell at the word “conflicts.”

Lucian’s brows furrowed. “We both work; conflicts are inevitable. You must understand that.”

Estella scrunched her face. “But why bring your work conflicts home?”

Lucian was momentarily speechless.

“Could it be that you haven’t forgiven Ms. Jarvis?” Estella questioned dubiously.

Lucian’s brows creased at the implication. After a pause, his lips twitched, and he said, “You know I never bring work stress home.”

Estella blinked, thoughtfully recalling the past. That seemed true. He was busy, yet always patient with her. Could it be Ms. Jarvis who brought work stress home?

She couldn’t understand why adults couldn’t separate work and personal life, much less that Roxanne was the one failing to do so. But, even then, Roxanne was always in the right!

Adamantly siding with Roxanne, she said furiously, “Even so, you have to coax her!”

Lucian was exasperated. He’d already explained, yet she still sided with Roxanne.

Meanwhile, Roxanne hailed a taxi and took Archie and Benny home. Exhausted from her earlier interaction with Lucian, she was quiet during the ride. Archie and Benny, however, thought she was angry with them and exchanged guilty glances.

Benny tugged at Roxanne’s shirt. “Mommy… Don’t be mad anymore, okay?”

Roxanne looked at them in puzzlement.

“We shouldn’t have sneaked out and made you worry,” Benny whispered apologetically, his head bowed.

Roxanne instantly remembered Lucian’s words. She understood their sneaking out, but couldn’t understand why he’d framed it as her deliberate ploy. A headache began.

Archie and Benny, believing she was furious, continued their explanations.

“We only went to see Essie because we were worried about her.”

“Besides, we were afraid she’d be sadder waking up without you, so we wanted to make her happy.”
