Chapter 910: Crooked Ways

Jason deeply regretted his actions, a regret that struck him the moment he committed them the previous day. However, Colby had already secured the research institute, leaving him unable to rectify the situation.

That morning, he rushed to the institute, hoping to salvage something. He arrived too late; firefighters were already on the scene. Remembering the burned storage and Roxanne's words, Jason slapped himself twice. Overwhelmed with shame, he pleaded, "This is my fault, Dr. Jarvis. I'm so stupid! Since I've come forward, could you please let this matter slide? My son is still in the hospital..."

Roxanne clenched her fists, fighting to remain calm. "That's not up to me, Dr. Coleman. This matter is under police investigation. Jason, how could you be so foolish?" Colby added.

Flustered, Jason exclaimed, "I was wrong! I'll return the money! Dr. Jarvis, for my son's sake, please! I promise I won't repeat this mistake!"

Roxanne stared blankly, silent for a moment. "I have children, so I understand how you feel. But that doesn't mean I should forgive you. Tell me who instructed you. I can write a memorandum of understanding on behalf of the institute. And I'll help with your son," she said indifferently.

Jason's gaze fell. He had no choice but to confess, "That's all I know. The sender's email was anonymous." He'd acted solely out of greed.

Roxanne frowned, photographed the sender's email address, and sent it to Benny for investigation. The police arrived. Before they could speak, Jason confessed, "It was me."

He was handcuffed and led to the police car. Roxanne watched, her expression complex. Before entering the car, Jason turned to her, pleading, "Dr. Jarvis, please help my son."

Roxanne sighed and agreed. Jason cooperated, entering the car. The institute staff watched the police cars depart, a melancholic mood settling over them.

Roxanne suppressed her disappointment, addressing the crowd. "I don't want a repeat of this. Come to me if you need anything. I'll help you to the best of my ability. I don't want to see anyone else sacrifice the institute for personal gain."

The crowd acknowledged her words, feeling sympathy for Jason. Among so many reputable doctors, he'd resorted to underhanded methods.

With Jason gone, Roxanne delegated his work before wearily returning to her office. Colby followed, concerned. "Dr. Jarvis."

Roxanne, about to close her door, noticed him. "Is there anything else?" she asked, weary. "Yesterday was terrible, and this morning was disastrous. I have no energy left."
