Chapter 911: Try My Best

Colby's face registered concern. "Nothing much," he said. "I just thought you'd be in a bad mood, considering what happened."

Roxanne froze, then offered a wan smile. "I trusted my colleagues, but I got stabbed in the back. Anyone would be upset in my shoes."

"Jason's a veteran researcher," she continued. "I never expected this from him."

Colby followed her into the office, apologizing, "If I'd known, I would have kept an eye on him yesterday."

Roxanne sat dejectedly. "It's not your fault. I wouldn't have expected it either."

At that moment, she was desperate to identify the person who emailed Jason.

As Colby sat opposite her, he silently observed her expression. "I wonder about the mastermind's motive," he mused. "Coincidentally, the storage room Jason burned contained Herbscape Group's medicinal herbs."

Roxanne's heart skipped a beat. She suddenly understood.

"It's strange," Colby continued. "Who else would know about Jason's son besides those in the research institute? It's unbelievable the mastermind used that against him."

He hinted at the deliberate destruction of Herbscape Group's herbs. He intently studied Roxanne's face, searching for information.

Despite her racing heart, Roxanne remained calm. "I've already asked someone to investigate the email address; I'll hear back soon. Let's discuss it then."

Colby, getting nothing from her expression, frowned in annoyance.

Roxanne forced a smile. "Thank you for your concern, Dr. Galloway. I'm exhausted. I'll need you to coordinate the institute today."

Colby nodded. "Okay."

Roxanne expected him to leave, but he remained. Confused, she asked, "Is something else the matter?"

Colby looked troubled. "Now that Herbscape Group's herbs are gone, how do you plan to salvage the situation?"

Roxanne felt a headache coming on. That batch of herbs was crucial to the project. Its rarity in Chanaea forced us to retrieve it before Herbscape Group's closure. Now, everything is ashes. I'll have to discuss this with Jack. The institute is responsible for the loss; I owe Jack an apology.

Just as her temple throbbed, Colby spoke again.

"If you need help, I might be able to soften the blow."

Roxanne's attention snapped back. "Do you know how to find those herbs?"

Colby nodded slightly. "I'll try my best."

Roxanne gave him a doubtful look. "That batch is rare; we barely found it in Chanaea. If it's too difficult, forget it."

Colby's gaze dimmed at her doubt. "I've lived in Horington for years; I have connections. Don't worry."
