Chapter 918: Let the Matter Drop

That night, Lucian went to kindergarten to pick up Estella. He arrived late; she was the only child remaining.

“Daddy,” Estella greeted him, her voice aggrieved. He patted her head apologetically. “I’m sorry I’m late.” He then nodded at Pippa, who had waited with Estella.

After putting Estella in the car, Lucian hesitated before starting the engine. “Daddy?” Estella asked, puzzled. He saw her bewildered expression in the rearview mirror.

“Have you seen Ms. Jarvis in the past few days?” he asked.

Estella’s face fell, then brightened. “Archie and Benny said I’ll see Ms. Jarvis tomorrow on the camping trip!” She admitted that without the camping trip, she would have been quite unhappy, missing Roxanne.

Lucian nodded. “What if I take you to see Ms. Jarvis now?”

Estella’s eyes lit up. “Really?”

Lucian immediately regretted his impulsive offer. He was still angry with Roxanne, yet Jonathan’s advice that morning lingered. He knew nothing about the fire at her research institute; he wondered if she was hurt.

Unaware of his hesitation, Estella urged, “Let’s go!”

Seeing her excitement, he couldn't back down. He started the car and drove toward Roxanne’s house.

Roxanne arrived home to Lysa, Archie, and Benny, who greeted her with concern. She smiled wearily. The fire at her institute had created significant problems, forcing her to stay there for several days.

Benny noticed her subdued mood. “Mommy, did something happen?”

Roxanne patted his head. “Nothing. I’ve just been very busy.” She hadn't told them about the fire.

Benny, however, was perceptive. “Is it about the email address you asked me to investigate?”

Roxanne’s brows furrowed. She hadn't expected his insight. His guess was confirmed by her reaction.

“I’m hungry. Let’s eat,” she said, changing the subject before he pressed further. Lysa called them to dinner.

Archie and Benny, realizing Roxanne wouldn't say more, let the matter drop. Relieved, Roxanne led them to the dining area.
