Chapter 918: Let the Matter Drop
That night, Lucian went to kindergarten to pick up Estella. He arrived late; she was the only child remaining.
โDaddy,โ Estella greeted him, her voice aggrieved. He patted her head apologetically. โIโm sorry Iโm late.โ He then nodded at Pippa, who had waited with Estella.
After putting Estella in the car, Lucian hesitated before starting the engine. โDaddy?โ Estella asked, puzzled. He saw her bewildered expression in the rearview mirror.
โHave you seen Ms. Jarvis in the past few days?โ he asked.
Estellaโs face fell, then brightened. โArchie and Benny said Iโll see Ms. Jarvis tomorrow on the camping trip!โ She admitted that without the camping trip, she would have been quite unhappy, missing Roxanne.
Lucian nodded. โWhat if I take you to see Ms. Jarvis now?โ
Estellaโs eyes lit up. โReally?โ
Lucian immediately regretted his impulsive offer. He was still angry with Roxanne, yet Jonathanโs advice that morning lingered. He knew nothing about the fire at her research institute; he wondered if she was hurt.
Unaware of his hesitation, Estella urged, โLetโs go!โ
Seeing her excitement, he couldn't back down. He started the car and drove toward Roxanneโs house.
Roxanne arrived home to Lysa, Archie, and Benny, who greeted her with concern. She smiled wearily. The fire at her institute had created significant problems, forcing her to stay there for several days.
Benny noticed her subdued mood. โMommy, did something happen?โ
Roxanne patted his head. โNothing. Iโve just been very busy.โ She hadn't told them about the fire.
Benny, however, was perceptive. โIs it about the email address you asked me to investigate?โ
Roxanneโs brows furrowed. She hadn't expected his insight. His guess was confirmed by her reaction.
โIโm hungry. Letโs eat,โ she said, changing the subject before he pressed further. Lysa called them to dinner.
Archie and Benny, realizing Roxanne wouldn't say more, let the matter drop. Relieved, Roxanne led them to the dining area.
