Chapter 919: Injured in the Fire
The four were having dinner when the doorbell rang. Lysa answered.
"Hello, Ms. Lane!" a child greeted politely. Lysa announced, "Ms. Jarvis, Mr. Farwell, and Essie are here."
Roxanne's hand froze. She was speechless. Since the incident the other night, she and Lucian hadn't seen each other. She was surprised by his unexpected visit and unsure how to face him. Before she could react, Archie and Benny excitedly welcomed them.
"Essie, come in! Have you eaten? Join us!"
Estella readily accepted. Archie and Benny ushered her into the dining room, leaving Lucian and Roxanne silent. The children took the initiative.
"Ms. Jarvis!" Estella immediately snuggled up to Roxanne. Archie and Benny obligingly made room. Estella smiled at them before sitting beside Roxanne.
"Mr. Farwell, join us!" Benny invited Lucian.
Roxanne felt uneasy. The prospect of Lucian sitting opposite her made her anxious.
Lucian's low voice cut through the air, "It's okay. You guys go ahead with Essie." He glanced at Roxanne before sitting on the couch, his expression unreadable.
Even from a distance, Roxanne ate slowly, her mind preoccupied. Earlier that day, Herbscape Group faced immense public backlash. News reports showed several handcuffed executives being escorted to police cars outside the nearly deserted building. The public finally learned of Herbscape Group's acquisition by Farwell Group.
Roxanne knew Farwell Group must have made a significant investment to acquire Herbscape Group under such circumstances. She wondered if Lucian orchestrated everything, including the fire at the research institute. Fear gnawed at her.
"Ms. Jarvis, here," Estella placed food on Roxanne's plate.
Roxanne forced a smile. "Thank you, Essie."
Estella looked concerned. "Ms. Jarvis, are you alright?" Roxanne's usual attentiveness was absent; she barely ate.
A flicker of emotion crossed Roxanne's eyes, quickly masked. "Of course. I've been busy and tired. Don't worry, Essie."
Despite this, Estella continued to offer her food, her worry evident. Lucian, too, fixed his gaze on Roxanne's back, intrigued. He remembered Jonathan's words.
Is she really tired, or is she injured in the fire?
