Chapter 945: What Medicine

His heart sank. “What’s wrong?” Archie glanced at Benny and Estella. “Are you free? Can you come pick us up?”

Lucian’s frown deepened. “Where’s your mommy? What happened?” He assumed something had happened to them; otherwise, Archie wouldn’t have asked.

A few seconds of silence followed, during which Lucian heard sobbing. This confirmed his suspicion. “Our car hit a tree, and—”

Before Archie could finish, Lucian interrupted, “Are you all right? Badly hurt? I’m coming!”

He strode toward the elevator. Archie hurried to explain, “We’re okay, but Benny and Essie are sick.”

Lucian was already inside the elevator. Archie wanted to clarify but couldn’t. “I’ll ask Mommy to talk to you!” he said, opening the door and rushing to Roxanna. He removed his smartwatch and handed it to her.

Seeing Archie unexpectedly, Roxanna instinctively glanced at the car. Archie’s here. That means Benny and Essie…

“What happened to them?” Lucian’s deep voice startled her. She noticed the smartwatch. Archie had activated speaker mode; Lucian’s voice boomed. She didn’t know how to respond.

“Mommy!” Archie tugged urgently at her clothes.

Roxanne finally regained her composure. She took the smartwatch. “I’m sorry for not taking good care of Essie,” she said apologetically.

Lucian’s gaze darkened. He probed slowly, “What happened? Archie said Benny and Essie are sick. Is that true?”

Strangely, Roxanne felt calmer hearing his voice. “They contracted a bacteria causing severe abdominal pain. I was taking them to the research institute for medicine, but I was hasty and crashed the car.”

Lucian remained calm. “Are they seriously ill?”

Roxanna nodded. “I gave them herbs, but it’s not working. I know how to treat them, but the herbs are at the institute. I need to get them there.”

Lucian’s brows furrowed. “Where are you?” Roxanne gave him their location.

“That’s too far—at least four hours round trip. And you’ll need to prepare the medicine. Can they wait that long?” Roxanne had the same concern.

She’d planned to take the children to the institute herself, or ask Madilyn or Larry to fetch the medicine. They were excellent doctors familiar with the herbs, and Roxanne trusted them. Unfortunately, they were busy. She was relieved when Lucian offered, “What do you need? I can go to the research institute and get the herbs.”
