Chapter 947: A Cold Glint
Lucian called Roxanne upon arrival. She rapidly listed several medicinal herbs, her words causing Lucian's expression to darken. He recognized some, but many were unfamiliar. Realizing her oversight, she calmed herself and instructed him to seek Dr. Galloway at the warehouse.
Lucian curtly relayed the message to Colby, his indifference prompting a subtle frown from the doctor. Colby then led Lucian to the warehouse. Lucian informed Roxanne of his arrival.
Roxanne, unsure how to proceed, realized the researchers hadn't labeled the shelves, unprepared for a layman's visit. Their dilemma ended when Colby gently offered assistance. Surprised, Roxanne put her on speakerphone. "Thank you, Dr. Galloway," she said, quickly listing the required herbs.
Colby efficiently retrieved them, his understanding of Roxanne's needs growing with each item. Finally, he confirmed his diagnosis. "Is it a bacterial infection?" he asked. Roxanne's relief was palpable. "Yes. Thank you." He simply smiled, adding nonchalantly, "It's urgent. You should have asked me directly instead of Mr. Farwell."
Roxanne was taken aback. Colby was merely a colleague; she hadn't considered asking him, preferring to reach out to closer friends. Unable to explain herself truthfully, she was relieved when he didn't press her, instead stating, "I need to adjust the dosage. I'll hurry." Roxanne inwardly thanked him.
Lucian's gaze fell on Colby's expression, a dark look clouding his eyes. Before anyone could speak further, he ended the call. Colby, noticing, offered a knowing smile before resuming his work. A cold glint flashed in his eyes as his brows furrowed.
The recent fire was telling; Roxanne should have understood his implication, suspecting Lucian. Yet, she still fully trusted Lucian, preferring his aid in an emergency over his own.
