Chapter 957: Contact Me Immediately
โHave you and the kids been here?โ Lucian stopped under a giant tree.
Roxanne stopped beside him, looking around before shaking her head. โNo.โ The tree stood at the woods' edge. Yesterday, sheโd been with Archie, Benny, and Estella near the waterfall or deeper in the woods; they hadnโt been to this spot.
Lucian nodded, gesturing toward the base of the tree. Roxanne followed his gaze, discerning a faint footprint, clearly an adult's. The prints faded as they neared the grassy area, making it impossible to trace their path to the tent. Nevertheless, someone else had been present yesterday besides herself and the childrenโwatching them play.
A wave of fear washed over Roxanne. โSomeone is following you. And theyโre experienced,โ Lucian concluded, pointing out the clear indication the person had jumped down from the tree.
โWho would do this?โ he asked, unable to think of an answer.
Roxanne frowned, shaking her head. โI canโt think of anyone Iโve recently offended. Thereโs one person, but it was a business matter, and it couldnโt have been him. Besides himโฆ โ A sudden thought struck her. She glanced at Lucian; her answer was linked to him.
โYou have an idea?โ Lucianโs gaze had been fixed on her, so he saw her look.
Roxanne, startled, suppressed her suspicion and shook her head calmly. โNo.โ She wouldnโt accuse anyone without evidence.
Lucianโs hard stare attempted to pierce her composure. He sensed sheโd thought of something but wouldnโt speak. Roxanne, feeling his gaze, lowered her eyes, feigning calmness. โWe should go back. The kids are starving.โ
Lucian, sensing her reluctance, dropped the subject, merely nodding. Roxanne breathed a sigh of relief and followed him toward the tent.
โUntil we find this person, Iโll arrange protection for you and the children,โ Lucian said.
Roxanne hesitated, instinctively wanting to refuse, but she realized having bodyguards was preferable to being secretly watched. โThank you,โ she conceded.
โAnd pay close attention to your surroundings. Contact me immediately if you notice anything unusual,โ Lucian instructed.
Roxanne agreed.
Back at the tent, the children werenโt playing; they sat in a row, gazing in the direction theyโd left. Their eyes lit up at the sight of their parents, and they ran to them.
