Chapter 963: Who Told You to Stalk Her?

Meanwhile, Lucian also instructed Cayden to investigate. With Farwell Group's resources, the investigation proceeded swiftly. In under an hour, Cayden brought the private investigator to Farwell Group. Only upon reaching the entrance did the investigator realize something was amiss.

โ€œDid I do something wrong? Why bring me here?โ€

Cayden gave him a cold look. โ€œWhy ask me? I donโ€™t call the shots. Youโ€™ll find out soon.โ€

The investigatorโ€™s legs trembled. The only person who controlled Farwell Group was Lucian Farwell. He had recently been following Roxanne on Aubreeโ€™s orders, witnessing Roxanne interact with Lucian, but heโ€™d paid it no mind; he was merely following instructions. Heโ€™d only taken pictures; he hadnโ€™t done anything improper. He certainly hadn't expected Lucian to summon him. The thought of Lucianโ€™s reputation sent a shiver down his spine.

The elevator reached the top floor. Cayden led the investigator into the CEO's office.

โ€œIโ€™ve brought the person, Mr. Farwell,โ€ Cayden reported.

Lucian, working impassively, looked up. He studied the investigator silently. The investigator felt his knees weaken, his resolve barely holding him upright.

โ€œM-Mr. Farwellโ€ฆโ€

Lucian ceased his scrutiny. โ€œYour name.โ€

The investigator was internally startled. How could Lucian not know his name? Nevertheless, he answered, โ€œCory Zaythrone.โ€

Lucian nodded. โ€œYouโ€™ve been following a woman.โ€

The statement hung heavy in the air. Cory felt immense pressure, breaking into a cold sweat. He dared not deny it.

After a moment, he stammered, โ€œIโ€ฆ I only took pictures. I didnโ€™t do anything else!โ€

Lucian frowned, believing Cory was truthful. Since heโ€™s not the culprit, I think I know who is. โ€œSomeone tampered with that womanโ€™s drink yesterday. Who was it?โ€

Remembering Aubreeโ€™s actions and the childrenโ€™s distress, Cory realized Aubree had implicated him. He hadnโ€™t stopped her from adding something to Roxanneโ€™s drink. If Lucian learned this, he would be considered an accomplice. He wouldn't be spared even if he didn't betray Aubree. Cory felt troubled.

Lucian observed Coryโ€™s hesitation, his eyes darkening, the tension thickening. โ€œLet me rephrase: Who told you to stalk her?โ€

Stunned, Cory could only reply, โ€œNo one.โ€ Heโ€™d worked tirelessly, yet received nothing. Even if Lucian discovered the truth later, it would be worth it; he'd still receive the promised payment. But betraying Aubree risked everything.
