Chapter 968: Want to See Essie
โWhat?โ Sonya frowned. โItโs bad enough Roxanne took my granddaughter out; she even made her ill.โ
Aubree offered a fleeting smile before composing herself. โThe person I sent to protect Essie witnessed it, but he lacks medical training. Believing Ms. Jarvis possesses some medical knowledge and could treat Essie, he didn't reveal himself.โ Sonyaโs face darkened. โIs Essie seriously ill?โ
Aubree feigned contemplation. โMy infected friends described excruciating pain. Essie is only a childโฆโ
Sonya understood the implication. A child couldnโt endure such pain. Roxanne had abandoned Essie before, and now she was responsible for her suffering. What was Roxanneโs intention?
โI wanted to check on Essie, but you know Lucianโs attitude,โ Aubree said, fueling the tension. Sonya declared, โIโll go myself!โ
She grabbed her bag, preparing to leave. Aubree quickly intervened. โMrs. Farwell, please don't mention I told you. Lucian dislikes me already. If he finds outโฆโ
It was true. Sonya worried about her granddaughter, but also felt Aubreeโs efforts were unappreciated.
โDonโt worry. I know what to say.โ
Sonya left. Aubree didnโt stop her. Once Sonyaโs car was gone, Aubree left as well, hoping Sonya's intervention would divert Lucianโs attention from her own actions.
Meanwhile, at the Farwell residence, Cayden stood in the study, grim-faced.
โMr. Farwell, the private investigator is incredibly elusive. Our men have followed him for a week without success.โ
Lucian looked somber. โContinue following him.โ He wanted to see how long the man could hide.
Cayden left. He encountered Catalina at the door.
โMr. Farwell, Mrs. Farwell is downstairs. Sheโs waiting.โ Catalina seemed troubled.
Lucian frowned, contemplating. His motherโs previous visits had been Aubree-related, but he hadnโt interacted with Aubree recently.
After a moment, Lucian rose.
โMr. Farwell, Mrs. Farwell doesnโt look pleased,โ Catalina whispered as he passed.
Lucian nodded impassively and went downstairs, where he found his mother sitting on the couch, her expression unfriendly.
โWhy are you here?โ Sonya, already worried about Estella, was further annoyed by his delay.
Lucian frowned, looking at Catalina. The housekeeper was at a loss. Lucian, however, simply sat and asked, โWhy didnโt you call? I could have come over.โ
Sonya slammed the coffee table. โI want to see Essie! Where is she?โ
Lucianโs eyes darkened, understanding Catalinaโs earlier unease.
