Listen to this chapter:

The Callahans were determined to evict James and Xara. Gladys even showed them the door with a broom.

Outside, Xara cried, her eyes welling up as she saw scattered clothing on the floor. She looked at James apologetically. "James, I'm so sorry. It's all my fault."

James waved her off. It was a trivial matter, and he didn't take it to heart.

"Alright, stop blaming yourself. It's not entirely your fault. The Callahans have long disliked me. They've been trying to convince Thea to divorce me. Thea used to defend me, but now, after this, divorce is a possibility."

Although not a serious problem, it certainly complicated things. "I-I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. If you two divorce, I-I'm all yours," Xara stammered, glancing at him. James replied, "Give it up. I only love Thea." He knew Xara's words stemmed from his perceived success after yesterday's event. "I'm serious," Xara insisted. "You have no status with the Callahans. Just get the divorce. I don't consider myself inferior to Thea. I'm quite good-looking, too."

Thea walked out, intending to return James's Black Dragon card. She had overheard their conversation. Tears welled up, but she suppressed her bitterness, forcing an awkward smile onto her tear-stricken face.

"James, here's your card. Thank you for everything you've done for me, for the care you showed me, and for the Callahans. I wish you both the best." She thrust the card into his hands, then, covering her mouth, ran back inside, sobbing.

Slam!

Before James could explain, Thea slammed the door. He resignedly put the card away.

Seeing James's frustration, Xara realized his heart belonged to Thea. She wouldn't have a chance with him. She consoled him, "James, come back and explain when she's calmer. She'll forgive you."

She bent down, gathered the clothing, packed it into her suitcase, and waved goodbye. "James, thank you for fulfilling my wish. I'm happy to have taken a photograph with General Highsmith and the Blithe King."

With her suitcase, she turned to leave. James knew he wouldn't be entering the house today. He planned to explain things to Thea after dealing with the Great Four. Dejected, he caught up with Xara. "I'll carry the suitcase." He took it from her.

"Thank you," she said softly.

They took the elevator downstairs. Outside the neighborhood, James asked, "Where are you going?" Xara was disoriented. She'd come to Cansington for the Blithe King's succession ceremony and hoped to find work, and take a photo with the King and General Highsmith. Her wishes were fulfilled. There was no reason to stay.

"I'll go home," she said thoughtfully.

James said, "Weren't you hoping I'd help you find a job? What are your skills? I'll see if I can find you something decent." It was late, and he worried about her wandering alone. Even with the misunderstanding, she was Thea's cousin. If anything happened to her, Thea would be furious later.

Xara explained, "I majored in economics. After graduation, I worked as a chairman's assistant for three months, but resigned because he made unwanted advances, even groping me."

James replied, "Is that so? I know the investment manager at Trade City Center. I'll give her a call. You should apply there."

"Huh? Really?" Xara exclaimed, astonished.

James smiled slightly, pulled out his phone, and called Scarlett. "Where are you?"
