Xara was stunned, her mind going blank. James frowned and glanced at Scarlett; his gaze sent shivers down her spine. She immediately dropped to the floor, her body trembling. The high-ranking officials were baffled. This was Ms. Brooks, head of Transgenerational Group. Why was she kneeling? For a moment, they were bewildered. James said quietly, "What are you doing? Get up."
"Yes, James."
Scarlett immediately rose and stood trembling beside him. James continued, "Why are they here? Dismiss them." Scarlett instructed, "What are you standing here for? Get back to work."
"Yes."
They swiftly left. Soon, only James, Scarlett, and Xara remained outside the Transgenerational Tower.
"J-James, I" Scarlett looked worried. She had only wanted to welcome James and never expected to offend him. If she had known, she would have come alone.
James waved her off. "Alright, I'm not blaming you. Just don't repeat it next time. This is Xara, my cousin. She's looking for a job here. See to her needs."
"Yes."
Hearing Xara was James' cousin, Scarlett instantly nodded. She approached James and took his suitcase. "James, allow me."
James nodded and ordered, "Assign her a position according to her abilities. I don't want people leeching off the company, nor incompetent people in high positions just because of connections."
Scarlett was puzzled. What did he mean?
"What? Still don't get it?" James glanced at her baffled expression. "Don't let her leech off the company just because she's my cousin. She'll be treated like all other employees."
"Understood."
Meanwhile, Xara remained in a daze. Had James been the owner of Transgenerational New City and the Trade Financial Center all along? She found it baffling. Who was James? How wealthy was he? Why would a man who owned Transgenerational New City marry into the Callahans?
"Xara…"
"Hmm?" Xara looked at him, astonished. "A-Anything, James?"
James replied, "Do your best. If you run into problems, ask. If you're competent, you can climb the ranks easily. You should have a bright future here."
Xara nodded, still confused.
"Remember, don't tell anyone about what you've seen today."
"Oh, of course. I understand." Xara nodded vigorously.
James glanced at Scarlett. "Order your men to keep quiet. Inform them of the consequences." "Yes," Scarlett nodded obsequiously.
"Then, I'll take my leave."
James called a taxi and headed to Common Clinic, intending to stay at Henry's place that night. The House of Royals felt too spacious.
Xara only regained her senses after James left. She turned to the professionally dressed Scarlett and introduced herself.
"Hello, my name is Xara Hills." She smiled.
"Welcome to Transgenerational Group, Xara. I'm the chairman, Scarlett Brooks. You may call me Ms. Brooks."
"Ah, it's nice meeting you, Ms. Brooks."
Xara was stunned. Even the chairman had knelt before James. Who was he?
"Ms. Hills, follow me."
Scarlett gestured for Xara to follow, personally escorting her into the company. "Ms. Brooks, I can carry the suitcase myself." Xara took it from Scarlett.
Scarlett smiled and they entered the elevator, arriving at the top floor.
"Ms. Hills, our company's rules and regulations are still in development. We've only partly opened up to business investments, interacting with only a few large corporations. Next, we'll improve our corporate system and gradually establish departments. James instructed me to assign you a position based on your abilities. You've just graduated. Let's see…why don't I place you in the business department? You'll be in charge of business investments in the region near the food streets. What do you think?"
Though James had instructed her not to give Xara a high position because of their connection, she still dared not offer her a position too low. The final promotional material was removed as it was repetitive.
