Lex also doubted James. It was believable for an ordinary place, but this was the House of Royals, the famous mansion in Cansington. He needed to confirm it himself.
Howard drove them. Lex, Tommy, Megan, Wendy, and her deputy captain (husband of a specialized police unit member) all headed to the House of Royals in the car.
Brody, a West Cansington resident who rarely visited Cansington, had also heard of the House of Royals. Rumor had it that this grand mansion was unsellable, even for $10 billion; there was no way to buy it, regardless of wealth.
Soon, they arrived at the outskirts of Cansington. A mountain loomed ahead, its beautiful environment and clear air striking. The villa sat at the mountain's foot. From a distance, a garden, golf course, swimming pools, and other amenities were visible. Other independent villas dotted the mountainside, collectively known as the Goodview Villa District—home to numerous high-profile residents, though their identities remained a mystery to the public.
At the Goodview Villa District entrance, two guards stood outside the security booth, which housed a dozen more. Inside, the guards chatted:
"I'm just a security guard here at Goodview Villa District, yet I'm dating a gorgeous college freshman. She's so innocent!"
"How'd you do it, Nick?"
"Simple. We can freely access the area. A few days ago, I secretly took a picture at the House of Royals' iron gate, posted it online, and countless women contacted me."
"Damn, Nick! Smart. I'll try that."
"Don't. The manager would fire you. Do you know who owns the House of Royals?"
"Who?" the other guards asked, curious.
"My uncle, a former construction worker, said armed personnel oversaw the House of Royals' construction. Could it be the Blithe King?"
"Shh! Don't say his name!"
Suddenly, a Bentley approached. Several guards emerged, initially unconcerned about the unfamiliar license plate. Goodview Villa District residents usually drove luxury cars like Rolls-Royces. But the Bentley, also worth millions, demanded attention.
"Who are you here to see?" a guard asked.
Lex, exiting the car with his cane, puffed out his chest. "I'm going to the House of Royals. I'm planning my eightieth birthday party there and am here to view the venue."
The guards found this amusing.
"Your eightieth birthday? At the House of Royals?" one guard scoffed. "You're Lex Callahan, aren't you? Even the Callahans can't afford a villa here, let alone a party at the House of Royals!"
The guards looked at Lex contemptuously, unimpressed by his confident demeanor. They'd seen countless big shots and considered a second-tier family head unworthy of respect. Tommy and the others felt mortified. The situation was incredibly embarrassing.
