Listen to this chapter:

James took Thea to a nearby large-scale job fair on his electric motorcycle.

Upon arrival, Thea said, "Jamie, why don't you wait outside? I'll take a look by myself."

James joked, "Why? Am I an embarrassment?"

Thea quickly explained, "Of course not! It might take a long time, and I'm worried you'll be bored. There's an internet café nearby; why don't you play some games? I'll call you when I'm finished."

She gently nudged him. As a woman with no prior experience in relationships, she'd read extensively on the subject. Many books claimed men disliked aimless wandering with women, so she worried he'd be bored.

"I don't know how to play games," James replied. "I'll come with you. I'll worry if I'm not with you—you're so pretty."

He smiled. Thea felt a warmth spread through her. She nodded, her head bobbing like a chick pecking at grain. She desperately hoped he would stay.

They entered the job fair together. Numerous companies had recruitment booths set up. Young adults in suits and professional attire milled about, seeking suitable positions.

James asked, "Thea, what kind of job are you looking for?"

"Let's see," Thea replied. "As long as it's suitable, I don't mind. I don't have much experience; an entry-level position is fine. I'll consider it a learning experience. Besides, I'm confident I'll be promoted quickly."

"Why don't you ask Alex for a job at Celestial?" James suggested.

"Oh, no," Thea shook her head. "He's a busy, important man. He wouldn't have time for me."

"You saved his life, but he's not indebted to you," James countered. "We can't depend on others forever. We should fight for what we want."

James was pleased with her response. He felt lucky to have such an intelligent wife. "Darling," he said, "we have our marriage certificate, but not our wedding. Let's pick an auspicious day for a grand ceremony! I promise you'll be the happiest bride."

"There's no rush," Thea waved a hand. "Let's work hard for a few years, get a house, then we'll talk about it."

James remained silent. Then, Thea spotted a company recruiting. A fashion designer position was available—a perfect fit. She'd loved beauty and aesthetics since childhood, but a disfiguring accident ten years ago had left her feeling like the ugliest woman in Cansington. She yearned for beauty and pursued fashion design in university, using her designs to compensate for her perceived flaws. She'd also explored sales, accounting, finance, and marketing over the past decade, but fashion design remained her passion.

Grabbing James's arm, she pointed. "Jamie, that's Ella Corporation. SOL, their luxury brand, is globally renowned. I'm thinking of applying as a fashion designer."

Her excitement was evident. Even during her years of feeling ugly, she’d subconsciously sought beauty, developing intimate knowledge of fashion houses and brands.

"Go for it," James said. "I have faith in you."

"Okay," Thea nodded, taking a deep breath to calm herself before approaching Ella Corporation's impressive recruitment booth – a stark contrast to the single tables of other companies. A long queue snaked to the entrance.

After over an hour, it was her turn. A man in his thirties, dressed in a suit, sat at a desk, clearly eager to go home. Without looking up, he said, "Please leave your resume and await notification. Someone will contact you to arrange an interview if you pass the initial screening." (The final sentence about a website has been removed as it is an inappropriate addition to the story.)
