Thea's family set off early that morning with one goal: buying a new luxury car. Despite visiting numerous dealerships and test-driving various models, including Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi, they remained unsatisfied. Every car was either beneath their expectations or exceeded their budget.
Conveniently, an auto show was taking place in Cansington that day, showcasing a wide array of luxury vehicles. Thea's family attended. David's eyes widened at the display.
"Woah! Ferraris, Bentleys, Maybachs, and a Bugatti Veyron!" he exclaimed, gazing enviously at an attractive model posing near the cars. "When will we ever be able to afford a real luxury car? A million-dollar car is nothing compared to these!"
Slap! Gladys slapped David's forehead. "Don't have unrealistic dreams," she scolded. "A million-dollar car is more than enough. What's the point of bringing us here? Don't think I don't know these cars cost tens of millions!"
"Mom, I just wanted to show you something new! It doesn't cost anything to look, right?" David said with a smile.
Thea, captivated by a red Ferrari, immediately snapped several pictures with her phone. "Wow, this car is a beauty!" she exclaimed.
The family spent some time at the show, taking numerous photos of the expensive cars. They eventually left, realizing the vehicles were far beyond their means.
After careful consideration, they purchased a Maserati for two million dollars. The purchase left Gladys with only a few thousand dollars in her account—not enough to cover car insurance.
"I told you to get one for around a million, but you insisted on this expensive one! Now we're really poor!" Gladys exclaimed furiously.
David tried to reassure her. "Mom, we'll receive fifty percent of the family shares soon. We'll have plenty of money. Let's drive it home. I'll take you for a ride in our luxury car!"
Gladys's anger subsided, imagining herself arriving at her parents' house in her new luxury car.
After the purchase, David drove the family around the city. "Woah… so good! This engine…" he shouted excitedly, perhaps a little too loudly.
Bang! Within ten minutes, David's speeding led to a rear-end collision at a red light. His delayed braking proved disastrous.
The loud bang sent a jolt through the car. Everyone's expressions changed instantly. They had just bought the car, uninsured, and were already involved in an accident.
David grimaced as he exited the vehicle, followed by the driver of the other car—a chubby man in his forties, simply dressed but with an air of authority.
"What were you doing? How could you brake so suddenly? You made me hit your car. Do you know how much my car is worth? It's two million…" David began, noticing the scratch and dent on his own bumper.
The man calmly surveyed his own car before glaring at David. "Well, my car isn't too expensive," he said nonchalantly. "It's just a limited edition Maybach, a little over forty million. Would you like to settle this privately or through insurance?"
"What?" David was stunned, having been preoccupied with his own vehicle's damage. Upon seeing the Maybach, his face paled. "Oh my god…"
Benjamin, Gladys, Thea, and Alyssa emerged from the car, their faces mirroring David's shock and dismay at the sight of the limited edition Maybach. Their situation was further complicated by the identity of the other driver: Xander Lawrence, the overlord of Cansington's underworld.
