After everything with Derek earlier, Evelyn was mentally exhausted and in no mood for drama. She wanted to avoid wasting time deciphering Sandra's machinations.
"You don't want me to know where you live? Why? It's me, Sandy. Your best friend. What's wrong, Evie?" Sandra asked, her face hurt.
"You're not my best friend, Sandra. Maybe you were once, but you're nothing to me now. So please leave me alone, and drop the act," Evelyn said, blunt and unforgiving.
Sandra blinked, surprised. "Evie, did I do something wrong?" A tear fell.
Evelyn sighed. "Save your tears. You're getting on my nerves. Why not become an actress? Your performance is top-notch!"
Sandra frowned, confused by Evelyn's hostility. "What do you mean? How can you call my desire to reconnect a 'performance'?"
Evelyn laughed humorlessly. "I was naive and gullible not to see through you."
"You're confusing me, Evie"
"Please stop, Sandra. I'm not the gullible fool I once was. Stop wasting our time." Sandra narrowed her eyes.
"Gullible fool? What do you mean?" Sandra asked. She spotted Derek and Michael approaching, as she faced the door and Evelyn had her back to it.
"Why aren't you married to Michael yet? Why are you interested in Derek when you have Michael?" Evelyn asked. Sandra was taken aback.
Evelyn's question confirmed it: Evelyn knew about the affair. How? Sandra wondered. How did she find out? Had that caused the wedding cancellation and her departure?
Evelyn smirked at Sandra's surprise. She felt a smug satisfaction. "Don't look so surprised, Sandra. Did you think I'd never find out about you two?"
Wanting to know the extent of Evelyn's knowledge, Sandra shook her head. "I didn't know my feelings for him were so obvious, Evie. I'm so sorry. I promise I never told him how I feel."
Evelyn sighed. "Perhaps you shouldn't become an actress. You're too foolish to be one if you can't read your audience. I'm disappointed."
Sandra scowled. "What exactly do you know, Evie?"
"What, or rather, how much do you think I know?" Evelyn asked with a wry smile.
Tired of the pretense, and knowing Evelyn knew everything, Sandra decided to stop acting. She hated Evelyn intensely.
"How long have you known?" she asked, glancing at Michael, who was still talking to Derek.
"What does it matter?" Evelyn asked, eyebrow arched.
"Is that why you called off the wedding and left?" Sandra asked. Evelyn shrugged.
"I'm sure you never wanted me to return. You probably thought I'd disappear forever, leaving you with everything," Evelyn said with a smirk.
"If you know that, why did you return? Go back to wherever you crawled from," Sandra hissed. Evelyn, who had been waiting for this, smiled. "Finally, you've dropped the act. I was worried you'd pretended for so long you forgot how to be real."
"Why pretend you knew nothing? Was it fun to watch me make a fool of myself?" Sandra asked irritably.
"I should be asking you that! You and Michael made a fool of me. But I don't have time for this. Now that the pretense is over, stay away from me," Evelyn said, starting to walk past.
As Michael and Derek approached, Sandra dramatically dropped her wine glass, shattering it. "Why are you doing this, Evie?" she cried, drawing everyone's attention. Silence fell.
Evelyn was shocked by Sandra's theatrics and embarrassed by the attention.
"What did I do to deserve this hatred? I've been a good sister. Why are you being mean simply because I remained friends with Michael?" Sandra sobbed.
Derek, having seen Evelyn and wondering about her presence, made a connection after hearing Sandra's claim of being a good sister. Then, it hit him: Evelyn Quinn. If she was Sandra's sister, and her name was Evelyn, that meant she was Michael's Evelyn.
