“Do you think I came here over this?”
“Isn’t that why?” Freya frowned deeply.
What else could have brought Kieran to her room if not for the whole Eloise debacle? Kieran clenched his jaw to keep cool; the woman just didn’t get how annoyed he was. “Do you really think I just blindly stick up for Eloise like that?” he asked.
“It’s not only in my eyes. You’ve always been blatantly favoring Eloise,” Freya retorted. “Everyone in Echo City knows Eloise is your darling, Mr. Sutton. Like today, didn’t you take Ms. Harwood’s side without a second thought?”
Hearing Freya’s words, Kieran immediately responded, “That’s because Ellie isn’t that kind of woman…”
“There, Mr. Sutton, you believe Ms. Harwood isn’t that kind of woman, thinking I’m the one who’s always stirring trouble, being bitter and sharp-tongued. It’s always my fault, right?”
“You…” Kieran was momentarily speechless. All he heard was how Freya, flaunting her position as the fiancée of the head of the Sutton family, bullied others, unaware of the rumors spread on the bulletin board.
Kieran said, “I didn’t know they slandered you, but is that my fault? You could have explained it to me!”
“Mr. Sutton, would you believe me if I explained? I’m not that vain to think you would punish Eloise for my sake.”
She had learned her lesson in a past life, and in this one, she wasn’t foolish enough to believe she held a candle to Eloise in Kieran’s heart.
“I won’t let this go. Mr. Sutton, I won’t let anyone walk all over me, whether you think I’m being harsh or unreasonable. We could always call off the engagement if it bothers you that much. Just say the word. And even Audrey’s staunch stance won’t matter. Then, we can go our separate ways, and I assure you that you’ll never have to deal with me making you uncomfortable again.”
Kieran felt a little bad about Freya, but his face hardened when he heard what she just said. “Break off the engagement?” he questioned.
“Yes, call it off,” Freya said. “You’re after the Dawson family’s network and resources. I get that. No problem. I’ll still introduce you to them, but we don’t necessarily have to get married. I’m aware you have no desire to marry me.”
Freya vividly remembered how she introduced all the Dawson family’s connections to Kieran in a previous life. It took Kieran three years to finalize the acquisition of the Dawson family’s assets. In that life, under Leland and Johanna’s management, the Dawson Group went bankrupt, leaving Johanna to run away with her son and Galen, taking all the money with them. Meanwhile, Kieran took the opportunity to absorb all of the Dawson Group’s technical staff, significantly benefiting the Sutton Group. “So, you seriously don’t want to marry me?”
“That’s right,” Freya nodded solemnly. “I don’t want to marry you, not at all.”
With a cold expression, Kieran said, “If you didn’t want to marry me, why keep so many of my things at your place?”
When Kieran brought it up, Freya deliberately said, “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer, right? Mr. Sutton, you know how much I love money. Initially, I wanted to gain some advantages from you, so naturally, I collected some information about you and understood your preferences. But now that I have Preston and Ronan as my strong backers, I don’t need to engage with you anymore.”
“So, it’s because of Ronan,” Kieran coldly remarked. “Do you think you can come and go as you please from the Sutton family? Or do you think you can toy with me? Freya, aren’t you a bit too bold?”
Before Freya could respond, Kieran suddenly pinned her down on the bed, his voice low, “All you want is money, right? You don’t need to go to Ronan, I have money, too.”
