Eavesdropping in Kieranโs ears, Kieranโs face turned as dark as a thundercloud. He suddenly remembered that when Freya used to tag along behind him, he would say the same things to her.
Seeing Kieran had arrived, Luna said, โMr. Sutton, Reyaโs here for school, and you keep showing up. Whatโs this about? Are you trying to play guardian angel or something?โ
Freya looked at Kieran with furrowed brows and said unhappily, โMr. Sutton, you following me around like this isnโt appropriate, right? Donโt you have anything better to do? Hanging around me, donโt you realize how much trouble youโre causing for others?โ
Hearing these familiar lines made Kieranโs face even more unsightly. Freya still remembered clearly back in the days when she used to bring lunch to Kieran, he would dismiss her from afar. Struggling in her high heels, she would trail behind him, only to be met with his merciless scoff.
โHeya, youโre a girl. Tailing me around like this, have you no shame? Donโt you have anything better to do? Youโre always causing me trouble! Donโt you realize how much trouble youโre causing others?โ
Back then, she could only obediently take the rebuke. Whenever she had to bring Kieran lunch afterward, sheโd leave his lunchbox at the front desk and occasionally catch a distant glimpse of Kieran before hastily leaving.
Thinking back to how she used to bend over backward for him, Freya couldnโt help but laugh. Who would have thought the tables between her and Kieran had turned only a few days into her fresh start?
โFreya, you know why Iโm here looking for you!โ Kieran was still making excuses.
Feigning confusion, Freya asked, โHow would I know why youโre here looking for me? Making such a big deal, people have classes to attend, Mr. Sutton. Just because youโre an investor in this school doesnโt mean you can throw your weight around, right?โ
โYeah, Iโve seen many people around school already quite upset. Theyโre complaining about not being able to attend classes properly!โ Luna interrupted from the side, perfectly setting the atmosphere.
Barely holding back his anger, Kieran said, โI asked you to make breakfast for me this morning. Where were you?โ
โMr. Sutton, we have a maid at home, and youโre not paying me a salary, so why should I make breakfast for you?โ Freya replied calmly. โBesides, Iโm a student. I need to attend school. You do realize it, Mr. Sutton, donโt you? And yet you still ask where I was.โ
โIs that so?โ As if heโd caught Freya in a trap, Kieran coldly asked, โWere you at school, or were you and Preston booking a motel room?โ
Hearing those last few words, even Luna felt the impact.
โBooking a motel room?โ Luna glanced at Freya. โWow, talk about setting an example!โ
Freya frowned and said, โMr. Sutton, you should speak with evidence. Who told you I booked a motel room with Preston?โ
Kieran asked again, โThe Echo City Hotel has a record of you and Preston checking in. Are you saying you didnโt go?โ
โMy ID was lost a few days ago, Mr. Sutton. You could check that. So, you came here all worked up over hearsay? Did you investigate? Or catch us in the act?โ Freyaโs tone was all dissatisfaction toward Kieran.
โLโฆLโฆโ Kieran was momentarily speechless. Although he hadnโt investigated thoroughly or caught them red-handed, Kara had claimed she saw it with her own eyes, and the Echo City Hotel indeed had a record of two people checking in, which was hard not to be suspicious of. Freya snorted, โIt looks like you donโt have any proof, Mr. Sutton. So, please step aside. We have classes to attend.โ
Seeing Freya about to slip away, Kieran instinctively grabbed her arm.
Seeing Kieranโs hand gripping her arm, Freya frowned and said, โMr. Sutton, please mind the setting. I havenโt signed any indenture with the Sutton family.โ
With that, Freya led Luna away, leaving Kieran behind.
