Chapter 147
Johanna sized up Cory with a glance, noticing only the assistant manager had come to greet her. She said, โDidnโt I mention I wanted to book seats in the banquet hall? Is everything ready? I want to check out the venue.โ
Cory heard this and apologized, โMrs. Dawson, Iโm sorry, but the banquet hall is all booked. It seems we might not be able to accommodate your request.โ
โWhat?โ Johanna frowned. โHow is that possible? When I called earlier, your receptionist said there were seats available.โ
Cory offered an apologetic smile. โThere were, but a gentleman has just booked the entire banquet hall.โ
With a cold stare, Johanna said, โMr. Cory, do you really think Iโm that naive? There are only a handful of big players in Echo City, and I havenโt heard of any big dinner parties lately. And your prices? Theyโre not exactly cheap. Tell me, how much did he pay you?โ
Cory explained, โMrs. Dawson, itโs not about the money.โ
Seeing Coryโs troubled face, Johanna glared and demanded, โOh? Itโs not about the money? So, youโre saying the Dawson family isnโt worthy? Is Majestic Manor Hotel looking down on us, the Dawson family?โ
Johanna raised her voice, her already loud voice drawing the attention of everyone nearby.
Cory said, โMrs. Dawson, I assure you. Iโm not making this up. Itโs bookedโฆโ
โI donโt care who booked it. I called you first, and you should know that my daughter Freya is about to marry into the Sutton family! And I am Mr. Suttonโs future mother-in-law! The Sutton familyโs status in Echo City is well-known, I presume? I suggest you think carefully about the consequences of upsetting me!โ Johanna was relentless.
Mentioning Kieran made Cory even more uncomfortable. He said, โMrs. Dawson, itโs not that I donโt want to help, butโฆโ
โBut what?โ Johanna scoffed. โIโd like to see who has the nerve to book all your banquet halls! Bring him out! Iโll double the price, and weโll see if I canโt buy it!โ
Suddenly, a voice reached Johannaโs ears. โWhatโs all the commotion?โ
At the sound, Johannaโs expression soured. Ronan slowly appeared, and Johanna felt trapped. Ronan was Kieranโs nemesis. Why on earth was he in Echo City booking so many banquet halls?
Cory approached Ronan, saying, โMr. Beckett, Mrs. Dawson would like to purchase one of the banquet hallโs seats from you. I was discussing a potential solution with Mrs. Dawson. If you could spare one seat, Mrs. Dawson is willing to pay double.โ
โOh? Is that so?โ Ronanโs gaze fell on Johanna.
Seeing Ronan, Johanna quickly said, โMr. Beckett, youโre just in time. I know you and Freya are on good terms. Itโs Freyaโs brotherโs birthday, and I was hoping you could spare us a seat. You wouldnโt refuse, would you?โ
Johanna smiled apologetically, knowing she couldnโt afford to upset someone of Ronanโs stature.
Ronan appeared unfazed and responded coolly, โConsidering itโs for Ms. Dawson, reserving a seat isnโt out of the question.โ Hearing it, Johanna was overjoyed. โI knew it! Mr. Beckett would make room!โ
โSince itโs for Ms. Dawson, we should reserve the largest banquet hall for Mr. Dawsonโs birthday celebration.โ Ronan smiled slightly. Oblivious to the gravity of the situation, Johanna was too busy smiling from ear to ear, โGreat, great! Mr. Beckett is truly magnanimous!โ Johanna thought, โHeโs much better than that Kieran, by miles!โ
Seeing Johannaโs reaction, Ronan turned to Cory and said, โProceed as we discussed. Transfer double the price into my account.โ
