Hearing Cory’s explanation, Johanna’s face turned sour. Twelve million dollars! That was a lot of money. How could they come up with that kind of cash on the spot?
Cory continued, “Mrs. Dawson, this banquet hall is reserved for the crème de la crème. I must also congratulate you. And wish Dawson a happy birthday.”
Johanna’s face twitched with pain. “Twelve million for a banquet hall? You can’t find another place like this… are you doing this on purpose?”
“Mrs. Dawson?” Seeing Johanna hesitate to make the payment, Cory urged her again.
With many eyes on her, Johanna froze and said, “I’ll use my card.”
Cory smiled. “Okay, I’ll bring the machine over.”
Given the large sum, Johanna had no choice but to use her credit card. All the savings she had accumulated over the years were in the bank and untouchable.
