Kieran’s face was uncomfortably close to hers. In the past, a gesture like this from Kieran would have made Freya blush. But this time, Freya pushed Kieran away, frowning as she said, “Mr. Sutton, we’re at the office. Show some decorum, please.”

“Decorum, you say?” Kieran seemed to find the notion amusing. He leaned closer to Freya, saying, “Who was it that used to come looking for me three times a day at the office, bending over backward to please me? Where was your concern for decorum then, hmm?”

As Kieran closed in, Freya sidestepped him and said, “Back then, I was young and naive, Mr. Sutton. Please don’t hold it against me.” Looking around, she added, “Mr. Sutton, this is the ladies’ restroom. Even if we need to talk, this hardly seems the appropriate place, does it?”

Hearing that, Kieran stared at Freya, his gaze taking on a scrutinizing quality.

“Mr. Sutton?”

“Come to my office.” Kieran’s usual calm demeanor returned.

Following him to his office, Freya saw him sit behind his desk. He looked at her and said, “Leland kidnapped you yesterday. By all accounts, I should have him thrown in jail.”

Freya had always doted on Leland, cleaning up his messes no matter what trouble he got into. Despite Leland’s consistently terrible attitude toward her, Freya had always been compliant.

After Kieran finished speaking, he awaited Freya’s reaction. Sitting opposite him, Freya said, “By all accounts, that should happen. I’ve wanted to see Johanna and her son behind bars for a long time now.”

Freya spoke honestly. Ever since her rebirth, she had extended every kindness to Johanna and Leland without reciprocation. In their circles, things could get twisted in all sorts of ways. Though Freya wasn’t violated, the rumor mill could work overtime. Having his fiancée smeared by such a scandal would also cause Kieran trouble.

“He’s in the Sutton family’s basement.”

“Thank you, Mr. Sutton.”

Seeing Freya rise to leave immediately after getting what she wanted, Kieran frowned and asked, “Is this the only reason you came here today?”
