Chapter 198

Freya asked, โ€œMr. Sutton, are you trying to crack a dad joke here?โ€

Since when did she need a guy with a finicky stomach to teach her how to eat?

โ€œYou can eat less in the evening, but canโ€™t skip dinner. Itโ€™s easy to fall into irregular habits by eating only twice a day. From now on, youโ€™re joining me when I have dinner.โ€

โ€œKieran, Iโ€™m not used to having dinner. Youโ€™re putting me on the spot here.โ€

โ€œEat dinner regularly, and Iโ€™ll give you a million dollars.โ€

Freya wondered if sheโ€™d heard him wrong. A cool million just for a dinner date? Had Kieran seriously lost it?

Noticing Freyaโ€™s skeptical look, Kieran frowned and asked, โ€œNot enough?โ€

โ€œHow aboutโ€ฆ two million?โ€ Freya tentatively haggled.

When she looked up and saw Kieranโ€™s expression, she knew she had overstepped.

โ€œFine, one million it is.โ€

โ€œMiss a dinner, and itโ€™s a deduction of two million. If you stick to the plan for a month, youโ€™ll easily make thirty million.โ€ Saying this, Kieran started on his food.

Kieran preferred simple meals and was picky about his food. Only a few dishes were to his liking. Freya had once gone to great lengths to figure out how to cook for him.

Watching Kieran eat, she suddenly wondered if his past pickiness was all an act. โ€œIs it good?โ€

โ€œIn my world, thereโ€™s no good or bad taste. As long as itโ€™s edible, I can stomach it.โ€

Hearing this, Freya put down her fork with a dark expression, saying, โ€œSo, all those times you said you wanted specific dishes, you were messing with me?โ€

โ€œWhat?โ€ Kieran hadnโ€™t caught on yet.

But soon, he recalled those times he had been overly critical to discourage Freya, asking for boneless fish, stewed meat that was neither too soft nor too hard, and even demanding garnishes on dishes, refusing to eat if the presentation wasnโ€™t appealing. It was all a challenge for Freya, yet she had met his demands, gradually matching his tastes.

Kieran replied with a poker face, โ€œToday, Iโ€™m barely managing. If you were to cook in the futureโ€ฆโ€

โ€œIn your dreams!โ€ Freya quickly shot down Kieranโ€™s suggestion, continuing to eat and saying, โ€œYou can forget about eating my cooking for the rest of your life.โ€

She had put in so much effort for Kieran, learning all sorts of techniques, even cutting her fingers a bunch of times. And it turned out Kieran was just messing with her! With that thought, Freyaโ€™s resentment toward Kieran got even stronger.

After a few bites, Freya put down her fork, saying, โ€œIโ€™m full.โ€

Seeing Freya about to leave, Kieran knew she was upset. He remarked, โ€œNo pay for an unfinished meal.โ€

That comment stopped Freya for a second. She turned, eyeing Kieran not too far away, and said, โ€œMr. Sutton himself said, โ€˜Eat less for dinner.โ€™ Iโ€™m following your advice. As the CEO of the Sutton Group, you canโ€™t go back on your word.โ€

Finishing her point, Freya took out her phone, shook it, and added, โ€œIโ€™ve got a recording. Hereโ€™s the evidence.โ€

โ€œRecording?โ€ Kieran couldnโ€™t help but laugh at Freyaโ€™s antics. It was just a million dollars. And Freya felt it was worth recording. Watching Freya head upstairs, Kieranโ€™s smile didnโ€™t fade. Realizing this, he quickly composed himself. โ€˜Wait. Why am I smiling?โ€™

Later in the evening, back in his room, Kieran could still hear the hammering and drilling of renovation work next door. Even with earplugs, it was no use.
