Chapter 231
In the hospital, Kieran had no idea how long he had waited before the surgery light finally turned green. He saw the lead surgeon and a few nurses wheeling out the gurney. When he spotted Freya lying on the operating table, Kieran immediately moved forward, only to be swiftly blocked by a nurse who said, โSorry. The patient needs to rest quietly now, and she said she didnโt want to see you.โ
Hearing Freya didnโt want to see him made Kieranโs heart sink. At that moment, Jarrett received a call from the police department. He stepped forward and said to Kieran, โMr. Sutton, our people just got there, and the female inmate is dead.โ
โHow did she die?โ
โIt was Preston.โ
That, Kieran let out a cold laugh. So, it was Prestonโs doing. It seemed Freya and Preston were closer than he thought. Preston was not one to stick his neck out for someone he didnโt value.
โLetโs settle scores with her later. Freyaโs injury is what matters now.โ
โBut Mr. Sutton, itโs getting late. Mrs. Sutton will start asking questions.โ
It was already midnight, and he would have a significant meeting in the early morning. Audrey had made it clear that Kieran was to come home early, especially since they argued that morning.
โYou go back first. Send the documents for tomorrowโs meeting to my phone. Iโll stay here.โ
โYouโreโฆstaying here?โ Jarrett thought he had misheard. Since when did Mr. Sutton personally stay by someoneโs bedside?
โEnough talk. Just do as I say.โ
โYes, Mr. Sutton.โ
As Jarrett was about to leave, Kieran said, โWait.โ
โHuh?โ
โCheck if thereโs any place nearby for late-night snacks.โ
โAre you hungry?โ
Kieran didnโt respond, but Jarrett quickly understood Kieran wanted to get Freya some late-night snacks. So, he said, โIโll check right now!โ
After Jarrett left, Kieran walked into Freyaโs hospital room. The nurses and doctors had left, so the room was quiet. Moonlight seeped through the window, casting a cold aura.
Kieran slowed his steps. Freya was asleep, obviously under the effect of anesthesia. Kieran had never seen Freya asleep so close-up. She was a real knockout, catching your eye right away and then slowly making you fall for her even more. But her face was marred with bruises and wrapped partially in bandages. The horrifying marks on her neck were distressing to even glance at, not to mention the wounds on her arms and hands.
At that moment, Freya seemed like a hedgehog without its quills, a cat without its claws, quietly lying on the bed. Somehow, she didnโt seem so disagreeable.
Kieran thought to himself quietly. Just then, a nurse opened the door, frowning, and said, โSir, only family members can stay for companionship. Are you family?โ
