Listen to this chapter:

He eyed the nurse at the door, his brow furrowed. โ€œAre you new here?โ€ Before the nurse could grasp the undertone of his question, the hospital director entered. โ€œMr. Sutton! My apologies. This nurse is an intern, unaware of who you are.โ€

The director, dressed hastily, rushed over upon hearing of Kieranโ€™s arrival at Crescent Medical Center. The Sutton family was a major benefactor to the cityโ€™s healthcare sector and the largest investor in their hospital. Offending them was not an option.

The nurse turned pale upon realizing who Kieran was.

Kieranโ€™s voice was cold. โ€œIf you have something to say, say it outside. Donโ€™t disturb her rest here.โ€

โ€œYes, Mr. Sutton. Right this way,โ€ the director said respectfully, making way.

Kieran exited; the nurse quickly sealed her lips, daring not to utter another word.

Once outside the room, the director began, โ€œMr. Sutton, let me introduce our lead physician, Dr. Williams. A promising young talentโ€ฆโ€

โ€œGet to the point,โ€ Kieranโ€™s tone was icy. โ€œI just want to know how sheโ€™s doing.โ€

Hearing this, the director turned to Dr. Williams.

Adjusting his glasses, Dr. Williams began, โ€œMs. Dawsonโ€™s injuries arenโ€™t too severe overall, mostly superficial wounds that should heal in a few weeks. But her arm and the back of her hand have suffered significant damage. It looks like her arm was deliberately broken, and the wound has become infected. Her right hand got crushed, damaging the tendons and bones. Itโ€™ll take months to heal, and it might affect her ability to write or exert force.โ€

Kieranโ€™s heart tightened. โ€œIsnโ€™t there any other way?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Mr. Sutton. Ms. Dawsonโ€™s injuries are severe. Should we consult with an international team of specialists and follow a rigorous rehabilitation program, thereโ€™s a chance for improvement. The process might be challenging, though.โ€

Kieran said coldly, โ€œAs long as her hand can recover, the process doesnโ€™t matter to me.โ€

โ€œMr. Sutton! Our hospitalโ€™s always teaming up with world-class experts. Weโ€™ve got this under control. Trust me on this.โ€ The director didnโ€™t waste a second to take command, trying to make a good impression on Kieran.

Kieran said, โ€œLetโ€™s skip the details. Iโ€™ll stay here tonight and take her home tomorrow.โ€

โ€œTomorrow?โ€ Dr. Williams was shocked. โ€œGiven Ms. Dawsonโ€™s condition, hospital observation is crucial.โ€

โ€œThe environment here isnโ€™t good enough. Iโ€™ll have the necessary equipment moved to my place for Freyaโ€™s recovery.โ€

Dr. Williams and the director were both deflated. Their hospital was the largest and most reputable in the city center, but Kieran found it inadequate! The whims of the wealthy were hard to fathom.

After the doctor and the director had left, Kieran returned to Freyaโ€™s room. Seeing her in a drowsy state, murmuring incoherently, Kieran leaned in to listen.

Hearing her ask for water, he immediately went to look for a water dispenser. Such menial tasks were foreign to him, and he clumsily attempted to use the machine.

Upon returning, he carefully fed the water to Freya.

โ€œCough, coughโ€ฆโ€ Perhaps choked by the water, Freya began coughing violently.

Seeing Freya frown in discomfort, Kieran felt out of his depth. He set the glass aside and gently laid her back on the bed.

At that moment, Jarrett sent over documents for the next dayโ€™s meeting to Kieranโ€™s phone.

Kieran reluctantly turned his attention to his phone, straining to review the materials for the upcoming meeting.

Suddenly, Freya seemed caught in a nightmare, crying out, โ€œStopโ€ฆ donโ€™t hit me!โ€

Kieran rushed right over to her, not quite knowing how to console her. He gently took her hand and whispered, โ€œIโ€™m here. Right here. No oneโ€™s going to hurt you.โ€
