Chapter 268
Freya had no intention of playing the tragic side character in this story. As she was mulling over her situation, Kieran suddenly grabbed her arm. Freya instantly went on alert, glaring at Kieran and instinctively trying to pull her arm back. โWhat the heck are you doing?โ
โStay still.โ Kieran looked down at the alarming scars on Freyaโs arm and said, โI promised to take care of you, and you fully recโ Donโt try playing games with me, pretending to delay your recovery on purpose.โ
โAs if I have time for that,โ Freya snapped back without mercy. She thought he was crazy. She was eager for her wounds to heal quickly so she could ace her finals at Summit University.
Pulling her hand free, she said, โMy arm is healing just fine. Thank you very much. Iโll be ready for physical therapy in a month, so thereโs no need for your concern, Mr. Sutton.โ
โYet, I hear youโve been cramming at the library, trying to cover every possible subject for the finals?โ
โKieran, are you having me followed?โ Freya couldnโt believe he would stoop to such tactics.
Kieranโs expression remained calm and detached. โYouโre overthinking it. I donโt need to follow you. People report your whereabouts to me.โ
After saying that, Freya got the picture. It seemed the dean of Summit University was eager to curry favor with Kieran, looking to hit their annual performance targets.
โAlright then. If thatโs how Kieran wants to play it,โ Freya thought.
Freya retorted, โI was bored, so I hit the library. Youโre reading too much into it, Mr. Sutton. As for the finals, Iโm not even sweating it.โ
โReally?โ Kieran scoffed. โGiven your past performance, do you think you can graduate? Dream on! Maybe if you begged me, I might consider helping you out.โ
Looking at Kieranโs smug face, Freya wished she could spit at him and curse him out as a โdamn businessman.โ But she held back her anger, saying, โIf you came here to waste my time with this nonsense, I suggest you leave and let me rest.โ
After that, Freya turned and lay on her bed, showing she had finished the conversation.
Waiting at the door, Jarrett cautiously entered after a while and said to Kieran, โMr. Sutton, itโs about time.โ
Since noon, after Flavia had left, Mr. Sutton claimed he wasnโt interested in Freyaโs affairs, yet he couldnโt resist coming over. He had a meeting scheduled for 4 PM, but there he was, wasting half an hour. If Audrey found out, there would be hell to pay.
Kieranโs gaze finally shifted away from Freya as he replied indifferently, โUnderstood.โ
As he was about to leave, he paused by the doorway and added, โSomeone will pick you up for the hospital tomorrow. Donโt oversleep.โ With her eyes closed, Freya pretended not to hear. Ignoring him was her best defense. Kieran was the last person she wanted to deal with.
After the sound of the door closing, she finally opened her eyes and defiantly flipped the bird toward the door.
Outside, Jarrett followed Kieran, reporting, โMr. Sutton, weโve tried digging into this Susan from W Group, but thereโs nothing on her. Itโs like sheโs a ghost.โ
Kieran frowned. โNothing?โ
โNothing. Iโve used all our contacts abroad, and still, weโve found no trace of Susanโs records. It indicates sheโs no ordinary person.โ
โKeep looking.โ
โThat might be difficult,โ Jarrett hesitated, adding, โPerhaps we should consider arranging a private meeting with this Susan?โ
