Chapter 270

Imagine being the unluckiest person in the bunch. That was Freyaโ€™s thought as she lay low, nursing her wounds at home. Her strategy was simple: keep her distance from Kieran, stick close to Preston, align with Ronan, and, whatever happened, don't cross Caleb. That way, she figured, her future wouldn't end in tragedy.

As evening approached, Kieran returned to the Sutton Mansion, only to see Kara, clad in a white dress, offering him slippers and eagerly attempting to help him out of his jacket.

โ€œMr. Sutton, let me help.โ€

Kieran barely glanced at her, not interested in her assistance. Kara awkwardly pulled back her hand, feeling the sharp sting of rejection.

โ€œNancy?โ€ Kieran called out, but received no reply.

Ra stepped forward. โ€œIs there something you need, Mr. Sutton? Iโ€™m here to help.โ€

She was hopeful, having donned a dress chosen by Johanna, one of Eloiseโ€™s favorites. Eloise even had an identical one.

Acknowledging her lingering presence, Kieran asked, โ€œWho allowed you into my home?โ€

Rather than feeling insulted as most would, Kara meekly apologized, โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Mr. Sutton. I thought Mrs. Sutton had informed youโ€ฆโ€ Before she could finish, Kieran lifted her chin, noting that despite her makeup and Eloiseโ€™s dress, Kara looked nothing like Eloise. With hopeful eyes and a bite to her lip, Kara seemed to expect more from Kieran, aware of his past with Freya. She had tried everything to win his favor, but Kieran forcefully removed her peach-colored scarf, startling her.

โ€œEllie dislikes anyone wearing the same clothes as hers. Wear it once, and Iโ€™ll tear it once.โ€

โ€œMr. Suttonโ€ฆโ€

โ€œLeave!โ€ Kieranโ€™s anger was palpable.

Kara froze in fear, but upon seeing Kieranโ€™s cold gaze, she stammered an apology, blaming Audrey for her actions.

โ€œKieran, donโ€™t frighten her,โ€ a voice came from inside. Audrey, supported by Nancy, approached.

Holding back tears, Kara looked even more pitiful.

Seeing Karaโ€™s demeanor pleased Audrey, who then scolded Kieran, โ€œKara is a distant cousin from the Dawson family. Mrs. Dawson sent her here to express gratitude for your support with her education. Donโ€™t be so harsh.โ€

โ€œGratitude? By offering herself?โ€ Kieran scoffed. โ€œMrs. Dawson is indeed eager to bind her family to the Suttons. Freya left, and in comes Kara. So insatiable.โ€
