Hearing Kieran say that, Kara immediately stood up, her words tumbling out in a flurry of defense. “Mr. Sutton, it’s not like that. My aunt isn’t that kind of person! It was my own decision to repay Mr. Sutton. It has nothing to do with my aunt!”

The sincerity in Kara’s eyes was unmistakable.

Seeing how Kieran had flustered Kara, Audrey stepped in and gently pulled Kara to her side, saying, “Now, now, there’s no need for that tone. I find Kara to have a wonderful nature, and I’ve taken quite a liking to her. From now on, I’ll keep Kara by my side to look after me. Since Freya Dawson has moved out, I’ll be returning to live here. If you don’t want Kara looking after you, then she can look after me. It’s still a way of repaying a kindness.”

Audrey’s words were a clear display of her fondness for Kara.

Seizing the opportunity, Kara quickly said, without giving Kieran a chance to respond, “If the lady of the house wouldn’t mind, I’d be more than willing to look after her.”

“Well, that settles it then. I’ll have you stay,” Audrey declared, patting Kara’s hand.

By the time Audrey stopped talking, Kieran couldn’t find a way to disagree.

Just as he was about to head upstairs, Kara added, “I’ve prepared a hot bath for you, Mr. Sutton, and also cooked some of your favorite dishes. If Mr. Sutton doesn’t mind… The dishes my cousin used to make, I can make them too.”

“You can?”

Kieran’s interest was suddenly piqued. Since the engagement party, he hadn’t had a chance to try Freya’s cooking.

Kara nodded eagerly, “Yes, I can. Maybe Mr. Sutton would like to try them.”

“I’ll have them brought up.”

With that, Kieran headed upstairs.

Kara’s spirits lifted at Kieran’s willingness to try her cooking, and she quickly said, “I’ll bring them right up!”

Without another word, Kieran went upstairs, leaving Kara to her tasks.

Audrey watched Kara with satisfaction. Smart and obedient—indeed, a fine choice for a granddaughter-in-law, if only her family background were more fitting for the Suttons. But as a companion to ward off the likes of Eloise Harwood, she was perfect.

Soon after, Kara confidently brought the dishes up to Kieran’s room. She knocked on the door, but there was no reply. Finally, she boldly pushed the door open.

The sound of water running from the bathroom made Kara’s cheeks flush.

Soon after, Kieran appeared, wearing a loose bathrobe, radiating a strong masculine vibe that made Kara blush even more.

“Just leave it and go,” Kieran said, his tone cool.

Kara hurried to explain, “It’s my first day, so I’m not yet familiar with your preferences, Mr. Sutton. I’d like to hear your feedback, in case there’s anything you dislike… I can immediately make changes.”

“There won’t be a need for changes.”

Kieran’s reply was indifferent: “Because you won’t be staying with the Sutton family for long.”

Kara’s face fell at his words.

Kieran approached the dining table, where the dishes reminiscent of Freya’s cooking awaited him. He sampled a bite and then, without another word, set down his fork.

Kara held her breath, hoping for approval. These recipes were passed down by Johanna, who had claimed that Freya had meticulously written them down to perfect her culinary skills, even going so far as to write down the recipes herself to remember them. These were the very recipes Freya had discarded, but Johanna had salvaged.

“Well? Is it good?” Kara asked, her confidence in her cooking skills unwavering, certain she couldn’t be much worse than Freya.

However, as she anticipated winning over Kieran with her culinary efforts, he simply put down his fork and said coldly, “Take your dishes and leave.”

Caught off guard, Kara managed to ask, “Mr. Sutton… do you not like it?”

How could that be? These were recipes directly from Freya’s own collection!
