Chapter 349

But miss it, fait like an invisible chasm had formed between them. That formal Ms. Harwood erected an insurmountable wall between them instantly.

โ€œAs you wish, Mr. Sutton,โ€ Jarrett responded, approaching Eloise calmly, which quelled the situation. Eloiseโ€™s hand, which weakly held a carving knifeโ€”not with any real intent of harm, but merely as a desperate ploy for attentionโ€”was gently relieved of its burden by Jarrett. Such theatrics, meant to manipulate through fear of loss, were distasteful to men like Kieran. They only served to complicate matters unnecessarily.

Jarrett led Eloise away, but Eloiseโ€™s eyes remained on Kieran, searching for any sign of the connection they once shared. But Kieran offered no such consolation.

Left alone in his office, Kieran sank into his chair, exhausted. He recalled Naylorโ€™s passing and the solemn promise to watch over Eloise. Yet, at this moment, Kieran couldnโ€™t shield her any longer. Instead, he couldnโ€™t stop thinking of Freya, injured and vulnerable. Had he known the challenges she faced at Summit University sooner, he would never have stood idly by.

Jarrett re-entered the office, breaking the heavy silence.

โ€œHow is Freya doing now?โ€ asked Kieran.

โ€œMs. Dawsonโ€ฆ she should still be at school,โ€ Jarrett replied.

โ€œAt school? Now?โ€ Kieran was incredulous. The social hierarchy at Summit University was notorious, and Freyaโ€™s presence there, especially under current circumstances, was likely to make her a target.

โ€œCall the principal. Tell him that even though Ms. Dawson and I are no longer engaged, any mistreatment she suffers is a direct blow to the Sutton Groupโ€™s reputation.โ€

Jarrett couldnโ€™t help but interject, โ€œMr. Sutton, youโ€™ve given that order an hour ago.โ€

Then, Jarrett said boldly, โ€œIf youโ€™re worried about Ms. Dawson, why not visit her yourself? Continuing this standoff will only lead to regrets if Ms. Dawson moves on. And we both know you wouldnโ€™t want that.โ€

Having worked for Kieran for years, Jarrett knew the depth of his bossโ€™s feelings, which Kieran seemed oblivious to.

โ€œWhat business is it of yours?โ€ Kieranโ€™s response was a mix of irritation and dismissal.

Yet, within seconds, Kieran stood decisively. โ€œDrive me to the school,โ€ he commanded.
