At those words, Johanna turned. She had pulled strings to get her niece enrolled in the school, and now she couldn’t get in? Given the debts she had, and with no help in sight from Freya or the company, her only hope lay with Kara, who was tirelessly working for the Sutton family.

Johanna quickly dialed Kara’s number, but there was no answer. Not far away, Kara was getting ready to head out with her dorm mates. As they approached the school’s main gate, Kara looked up and spotted Johanna. Instantly, Kara’s expression soured.

“Kara! How dare you ignore my calls!”

Johanna, desperate at this point, didn’t think twice before pulling Kara aside.

“Auntie! I didn’t do it on purpose. My phone was on silent!”

Kara appeared genuinely upset, and her dorm mates were shocked to see Johanna treating her so poorly. Johanna didn’t care whether Kara’s phone was on silent. Clutching Kara’s arm tightly, she said, “I’ve been calling you non-stop, and you don’t pick up. Think you’re too good for us now that you’ve climbed up the social ladder? Don’t forget who bought you that phone, who used their connections to get you into Summit University, and who gave you the chance to get close to the Sutton family! Without me, you’d still be a nobody in some small town, not here in the big city making something of yourself!”

“Auntie, I know I was wrong. I won’t do it again!”

Kara’s face went pale. She couldn’t stand the thought of her dorm mates seeing her in such an embarrassing situation.

“Kara’s phone was really on silent. She didn’t mean to ignore you.”

“Yeah, how can you treat Kara like this? She’s going to be Mrs. Sutton.”

Everyone in their circle knew Johanna was notorious for leveraging her daughter’s beauty for her own benefit. Once attached to the wealthy Mr. Dawson, and after his untimely death, she was quick to push Freya into a strategic marriage, all to ensure her son could take over the company.

“Mrs. Sutton?” Johanna scoffed. “Would she have had this chance without me?”

Then, turning to Kara, she demanded, “I knew you had it in you. You’ve already won over Kieran, so why didn’t you tell me? Now, I need you to go to the Sutton family and get me two hundred million!”

“What?!” Kara was stunned at the astronomical figure. Two hundred million? How could she possibly ask the Sutton family for such an amount?

“You’re about to become Mrs. Sutton, aren’t you? If it hadn’t been for me, how could you have even met Kieran? It’s about not forgetting where you came from. You owe me!”

Johanna had been trying to reach Audrey to no avail. She needed to secure those two hundred million fast; otherwise, her debts would only spiral.

“If you can’t get it from Audrey, then plead with Mr. Sutton! Surely, they won’t leave my niece out in the cold after everything!”

Kara realized the gravity of her boastful claims to her classmates about being the future Mrs. Sutton. In truth, after her initial meeting with Kieran, she hadn’t seen him at the Sutton residence at all, let alone secured his affections.

“I don’t know, Auntie. That’s a lot of money. How can I even begin to ask Audrey for such a favor…”
