After all, Kara had nothing to do with him. Anyone with half a brain would realize that, with their worlds so apart, a connection between them was impossible. The rumors had to be Kara’s own fabrication. Kieran had no taste for such manipulative people; in fact, he found her utterly repulsive.

Kara was oblivious to the fact that Kieran was already privy to her actions. In a bid to sway him, she said, “But my aunt’s troubles are also affecting the Dawson family. Mr. Sutton, are you really going to just stand by?”

“Jarrett, did I stutter before? Or do you need me to repeat myself?”

“Yes, Mr. Sutton.”

Once again, Jarrett approached Kara, saying, “Ms. Orson, if you don’t leave now, I’m afraid I’ll have to resort to drastic measures.” Kara paled at his words.

Her aunt Johanna’s imprisonment could ruin her if word got out at Summit University, where she was just starting her freshman year. If her lies were exposed, with no one to back her, how was she going to survive the next three years, let alone afford tuition?

“Mr. Sutton! Please, I beg you, help my aunt! Lady Sutton! Considering how obedient I’ve been these past few days, serving you, I beg you, Mr. Sutton, please help my aunt!” Kara was a mess of tears.

Audrey, observing the disdain Kieran held for this woman, shifted her tone. “Your aunt’s criminal actions are out of our hands. This is really a matter for the Dawson family. If you’re looking for help, I suggest you reach out to Ms. Dawson.”

The mention of Freya caused Kieran’s gaze to flicker momentarily. Freya? She certainly wouldn’t bother with this. And he had a hunch that Johanna’s imprisonment was somehow connected to Freya. Realizing he was still fixated on Freya, Kieran grew even more irritable.

“Get her out of here!”

“Yes, sir.”

This time, Jarrett didn’t bother with pleasantries, dragging Kara out of the Sutton estate. Despite her cries and pleas, he remained unmoved.

“Kieran, now that the Dawson estate is in Freya’s hands, and with no heir apparent, do you understand what this means for us?” Audrey settled back into the sofa, a plan forming in her mind.

Although Johanna’s imprisonment was causing a stir, it was good news for the Sutton family. It meant the Dawson lineage was at a dead end. Freya, a single woman, how could she possibly uphold the Dawson corporation? If Kieran were to marry Freya, it would be like securing a fortune for the Sutton family. An opportunity too good to pass up. Kieran, of course, understood all this.

“Kieran, whether you like Freya or not, the Sutton family’s interests must always come first, understand?”
