The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 531-535

Chapter 531

Elaine Ma was unaware that Christopher and Hannah plotted to steal her assets and the Thompson First villa owned by her son-in-law, Charlie Wade. She spent the evening playing mahjong at Summer's villa, ordering KFC instead of going home for dinner. The women enjoyed their game and takeout, oblivious to the events unfolding elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Charlie Wade had already prepared dinner and was eating with his wife, Claire Wilson, and father-in-law, Jacob Wilson. Claire complained about her mother's absence.

"Dad, please control Mom! Stop her mahjong addiction!" Claire pleaded.

Jacob scoffed. "Control her? I can't! You try. If I could control her, would I be in this situation? Do you know why Grandma favored my brother over me?"

"Because of Mom?" Claire asked, surprised.

Jacob sighed. "Precisely! Grandpa and Grandma initially forbade our marriage. If Mom hadn't been pregnant with you, Grandpa never would have relented."

Charlie was shocked to learn his in-laws had a child before marriage.

Jacob continued, "Grandma never liked your mother, not even after twenty years."

Claire was puzzled. "Even after all this time, shouldn't she have let go of her prejudices?"

"Grandma thinks your mother is shrewd and looks down on her family's relative poverty," Jacob explained.

Claire sighed. "I know it's wrong, but Grandma's no better than Mom"

"You're right," Jacob agreed. "Grandma dislikes Mom because she sees herself in her."

Claire murmured, "That makes sense."

Charlie silently agreed. Lady Wilson was the "big devil," and Elaine Ma, the "little devil." The elder feared the younger would eventually surpass her. This explained Lady Wilson's attempts to control Elaine.

The mother-in-law/daughter-in-law dynamic is delicate; essentially, a mother-in-law wants control, and a daughter-in-law wants freedom. This was especially true for the controlling Lady Wilson.

Suddenly, the television announced breaking news from Aurous Hill. A report detailed the death of Masao Kobayashi, chairman of Kobayashi Pharma, allegedly poisoned by his son, Ichiro, who was now hiding in Aurous Hill. A three-billion-yen reward was offered for his capture, leading to an influx of Japanese hitmen. Police urged vigilance.

Jacob exclaimed, "That Ichiro's a beast! Killing his own father for inheritance!"

Charlie chuckled; Ichiro wasn't a beast, merely misguided.

Chapter 532

Masao Kobayashi's death dominated Japanese news. His second son, Jiro, painted Ichiro as the murderer, increasing the reward to three billion yen to ensure his brother's swift demise. Jiro knew Ichiro hadn't intended to kill their father, but his absence abroad made him the convenient scapegoat. The transfer of ten billion dollars to Charlie Wade provided circumstantial evidence linking him to the incident. If Ichiro were to return, he would claim his inheritance. To prevent this, Jiro needed him dead.

Charlie texted Albert, instructing him to demand one billion dollars from Jiro in exchange for Ichiro's life, or he'd return Ichiro to Tokyo for a press conference. This would force a conflict between the brothers, benefiting Charlie either way.

Albert contacted Jiro, who was furious at the request. One billion dollars! Kobayashi Pharma had already paid ten billion for the poison!

Chapter 533

Jiro hated Charlie Wade but dared not offend him. He tried to bargain, citing Kobayashi Pharma's financial difficulties.

Albert refused to negotiate. Jiro pleaded for two months to raise the money, requesting Ichiro remain hidden.

Albert consulted Charlie Wade, who responded: "Tell him no bargaining. If he refuses, I'll send his brother back to Japan. Ichiro would pay five billion yen if asked!"

Ichiro, hiding at Albert's dog farm, feared for his life. Heโ€™d pay Charlie Wade a large share of his inheritance for a chance to return to Japan.

Albert called Jiro again, highlighting the potential loss if Ichiro returned and claimed a share of Kobayashi Pharma.

Jiro, gritting his teeth, agreed and quickly transferred the money. He urged Albert to ensure Ichiro's death.

Chapter 534

Albert asked Charlie Wade whether he should kill Ichiro. Charlie instructed him to fake Ichiro's death with special effects video and send it to Jiro.

Albert was surprised. Charlie explained that keeping Ichiro alive could be advantageous and that he didn't owe the Japanese anything.

At the Moore family mansion, the family discussed the Kobayashi Pharma incident, suspecting Charlie Wade's involvement. Reuben highlighted Dr. Simmons and his high paraplegia cure, believing it was the same pill Charlie Wade had given Lord Moore. Lord Moore warned Reuben to respect Charlie Wade. He acknowledged the pillโ€™s effectiveness but felt his lingering weakness stemmed from his age. Reuben suggested asking Charlie Wade for another pill, but Lord Moore declined, believing they had not adequately repaid their debt.

Chapter 535

Reuben's lack of understanding of Lord Mooreโ€™s reverence for Charlie Wade was highlighted. Lord Moore viewed Charlie Wade as a god-like figure due to his age and awareness of his mortality. Jasmine understood her grandfather's mindset; her possession of a pill provided an unprecedented peace of mind. Reuben's pragmatic approach differed from Jasmine's; she valued the pill as a symbol of Charlie Wade's care and didn't wish to misuse it.

Lord Moore then instructed Reuben and Jasmine to visit the Castle Peak Psychiatric Hospital and greet Donald Webb, whose family had close ties with the Moores. Reuben inadvertently mentioned the online video of the Webb family member who ate excrement. Lord Moore explained his request: to express sympathy and explain their father's absence. Reuben agreed, recognizing the Webb family's high status.
