The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 581-585
Chapter 581
Charlie Wade smiled at Jasmine. "I came with my father-in-law for his class reunion. I didn't tell you to avoid troubling you."
Jasmine exclaimed, "Mr. Wade, you should have told me! I would have prepared to entertain him and his friends!"
Charlie chuckled. "No need for special preparations. It's just a casual get-together. Too much fanfare might overwhelm them."
He continued, "Also, Father-in-law doesn't know about our relationship. It might confuse him if a Moore family member entertained him."
Jasmine nodded. "Mr. Wade, my grandfather's eightieth birthday banquet is tomorrow at noon. I was going to invite you tonight. He's been wanting to meet you."
Charlie considered it. "I'm free. I'll attend."
Even though the Moores weren't the most powerful, they were Aurouss Hill's wealthiest and most influential family. Maintaining a good relationship would be advantageous. He also liked Jasmine; she was smart and promising.
Jasmine, relieved, asked, "Mr. Wade, should I pick you up tomorrow morning?"
"No, it's alright. You'll be busy. I'll go myself," Charlie declined.
Jasmine smiled sweetly. "Okay, Mr. Wade. See you tomorrow."
"Okay."
Jasmine checked her watch. "Mr. Wade, I must go prepare for the banquet."
"Go," Charlie nodded, watching her leave before taking the elevator to the tenth floor.
Room 1008, Tenth Floor
The old men were awestruck by the room's luxury, snapping photos with their phones. The tenth floor of the Glorious Club was accessible only to the most influential people in Aurouss Hill, even notorious mob bosses. Jacob Wilson and his classmates were humbled by their unexpected access.
"All thanks to Jacob Wilson's son-in-law! This is a royal palace!" one exclaimed.
"Fifty years, and I've never seen such luxury! Jacob's son-in-law is amazing!" another added.
The compliments swelled Jacob's pride. Initially ridiculed, he now basked in the respect of his old classmates. His self-esteem soared.
While Jacob and his classmates enjoyed the tenth floor, Elaine Ma and Hannah arrived at the Thompson First villa to play mahjong with a wealthy woman, Hannah's acquaintance.
Chapter 582
A well-dressed middle-aged woman sat at the mahjong table, setting up an electronic machine. "Hannah, who's your friend?" she asked.
Hannah introduced Elaine Ma as a mahjong enthusiast, a high-roller, and a good sport.
Elaine greeted Linda politely. Linda, pleased to find a new mahjong partner, invited Elaine to play often. Elaine readily agreed, lamenting the departure of her usual partner to the United States.
Linda, extending a hand, welcomed Elaine to her home, explaining that she used her villa for mahjong games.
Elaine envied Linda's wealth, noting that the villa, while luxurious, was smaller than the one Zeke gave Charlie Wade – the largest in Thompson First. Even so, it was lavish for most.
Elaine couldn't resist asking, "Sister Linda, how much did this villa cost?"
Linda, startled, replied, "Oh, not much. About eighty million dollars."
(The villa was actually owned by a film company and temporarily rented out after filming "New Love Apartment.")
Hannah, wanting revenge on Elaine for humiliating her and Christopher, had rented the villa for five thousand dollars a day, planning to swindle Elaine. Ideally, she'd also cheat Elaine out of Charlie's villa.
Unaware of the trap, Elaine saw a lucrative opportunity. She flattered Linda, mentioning her upcoming move into Villa AO5 at Thompson First.
Linda, already aware of Elaine's villa, was ready to collaborate with Hannah to con Elaine. A seasoned Macau casino croupier for over thirty years, Linda excelled at cards and mahjong. Hannah promised technical support, with profits split evenly. Elaine viewed Linda as an ATM; Linda saw Elaine as a pig ready for the slaughter.
Chapter 583
Everyone was eager to begin. Linda introduced Gianna Rowe, another friend, suggesting a low-stakes game to start.
Elaine, however, was shocked by Linda’s suggestion to begin with a $1,000 bet with a 64x multiplier. Linda brushed off Elaine's concerns, recounting past games with far higher stakes, exaggerating her and Hannah's winnings.
Elaine, convinced of Linda's wealth and Hannah's collaboration, agreed to the $1,000 starting bet.
Chapter 584
Elaine’s luck was remarkably good, consistently winning with Hannah's subtle assistance. After several rounds, she'd won over three hundred thousand dollars—a record for her.
Hannah signaled to Linda, indicating it was time to raise the stakes. Linda, feigning boredom, suggested a higher bet to "freshen things up."
Hannah agreed. Elaine, blinded by greed and unaware of the trap, readily consented to a $10,000 bet, envisioning millions in winnings. Linda even suggested she could call a neighbour who played for lower stakes if they were uncomfortable. Hannah further encouraged Elaine, painting a picture of potential $5 million winnings.
Elaine, fearing Linda would call another player, agreed to the higher stakes. Linda suggested using internet banking for easier transactions.
Chapter 585
Elaine drew a perfect hand—a "Heavenly Hand"—guaranteeing a win with a 60,000 or 90,000 tile. She called a draw.
Linda, surprisingly, revealed a Concealed Kong. Elaine realized the 90,000 tile was hidden within Linda's concealed hand, and she was forced to continue drawing.
Elaine considered signaling Hannah for a 60,000 tile but decided to rely on her own luck. However, she drew an 80,000 tile instead of the needed 60,000 tile.
Linda called a draw, revealing the concealed 90,000 tile. Elaine was stunned; she was trapped.
