Chapter 866

Lady Wilson yelled at Wendy, "Wendy, bring Elaine here! Wash the food off her head with cold water! Otherwise, she'll sneak more food later!"

Elaine shrieked, "It's almost winter! You'll kill me with cold water!"

Gena sneered, "Stop it, or I'll join Lady Wilson in giving you a cold shower!"

Terrified, Elaine was dragged to the bathroom by her mother and niece. Wendy mercilessly held Elaine's head under the faucet, turning the cold water full blast. The icy water left Elaine shivering and speechless.

Sobbing, Elaine pleaded, "Mom, a towel! I'll freeze to death!"

Lady Wilson sneered, "You deserve a towel? Freezing to death would be a blessing!" She added sarcastically, "Or you could just cooperate and die. It'd be a hundred bucks well spent."

Elaine collapsed, sobbing. Lady Wilson, disgusted, told Wendy, "Leave her. Let's go!"

Wendy gloated, "Your good days are over! I'll clean you up, then that little b*tch, Claire!"

Unaware of her mother's ordeal, Claire split with Charlie to search for Elaine—Claire to a beauty salon, Charlie to a card room. Charlie, holding the car keys, was about to leave when Claire stopped him.

"Charlie, tell me about Dad's old classmate," she whispered.

"What do you want to know?" Charlie asked.

"Her appearance, personality, family, relationships, and future plans," Claire replied.

Charlie described Matilda as beautiful, well-mannered, humble, and friendly. Her husband had passed away, and she and her son were very successful, running a large law firm for Fortune 500 companies. They had recently relocated to Aurouss Hill and planned to retire there. He hastily corrected himself: "They're not exactly dependent; they're very successful."

Chapter 867

"What?!" Claire gasped. "Beautiful, well-mannered, widowed, and wealthy? A diamond in the rough?"

Charlie nodded. "She doesn't look like an aunt—more like an older sister. She looks thirty-seven or thirty-eight, maybe forty."

"No way!" Claire exclaimed, incredulous.

Charlie insisted, "She's younger and more beautiful than Kelly Hu. She's having dinner with us tonight."

Claire no longer doubted Charlie. "My father's first love, widowed, wealthy with my parents fighting and Mom missing she'll take advantage!"

Charlie said, "We can't control our parents' lives. We can only respect their choices."

Claire's anxiety grew. She loved her mother, despite her flaws, and desperately wanted to find her.

"It's late," she said. "Let's split up. Search every card room, take pictures of Mom, and ask everyone."

"I don't have a picture of Mom," Charlie replied. He hadn't kept any photos of Elaine.

"I'll send you her ID photo," Claire said.

Charlie systematically searched card rooms, photographing each entrance and interior, sending the pictures to Claire to prove his efforts. His reports were always the same: no one had seen Elaine.

Chapter 868

Twenty-four hours had passed since Elaine's disappearance. Claire, frantic, visited Elaine's favorite beauty salons.

At one salon, she showed Elaine's picture. The owner exclaimed, "That's Elaine Ma!"

"You know my mother?" Claire asked.

"She was a regular," the owner replied. "Haven't seen her lately. She often came with friends. Is she missing?"

Claire nodded. "Do you know her friends?"

The owner said, "A friend of hers is getting a facial now. I'll call her."

A large, richly dressed woman, Sister White, emerged, masked. Claire hoped for information.

Sister White asked, "You're Elaine Ma's daughter?"

Claire said, "Aunt White, have you seen my mother since yesterday?"

Sister White snorted, "Friends like your mother, we can't afford!"

Claire pressed, "What do you mean? Did my mother offend you?"

Sister White said, "Yesterday, I invited her for a facial, but she said she was too good for us. Said she'd buy the salon and have it serve her alone! She mocked us as poor!"

Chapter 869

Sister White's anger crumpled her mask. She recounted Elaine's insulting remarks, explaining their past friendship. Elaine's sudden arrogance and insults had left her fuming.

Claire wondered why her mother had acted that way. Had she unexpectedly come into money? But why disappear?

Sister White asked, "Your mother is missing?" Claire confirmed it, explaining the situation.

Sister White speculated that Elaine, having come into wealth, had abandoned her family and friends. She admitted feeling better knowing this.

Claire thought of her Aunt Hannah, who had eloped with a lover and stolen a large sum of money. Could her mother have done the same? She felt anxious.

She asked Sister White for clues. Sister White only knew of the phone call and had no further information. Claire thanked her profusely.

Chapter 870

Claire pondered the inconsistencies. Elaine had been penniless the day before, yet spoke like a nouveau riche to Sister White. Even if wealthy, why disappear? Wouldn't she at least stay at the Thompson First Villa?

The clues ended with Sister White. More information was needed.

Charlie, worried about Claire's distress, searched for Elaine, still unsure how to help. He saw a billboard about cracking down on MLM schemes. An idea struck him.

He called Cameron Isaac. "How is my mother-in-law?"

Cameron reported that Elaine was having a rough time in detention, disliked by other inmates.

Charlie said, "Lady Wilson will get her back. It's normal she's suffering."

Cameron asked about his plan. Charlie replied, "I'm not releasing her yet. I'll contact you when I am."

This cleaned-up version corrects grammar, punctuation, and improves sentence structure for better readability and flow. It also consolidates repetitive phrasing and replaces informal language with more formal alternatives where appropriate. The excessive use of the term "b*tch" was reduced to maintain a more professional tone.
