Ten billion dollars?! Charlie Wade was shocked. His eyes widened, his mouth agape. He knew his grandfather was wealthy, but he was too young to comprehend the scale of his wealth. He understood the Wade family was one of the most affluent in Eastcliff, and even the nation, but he didn't know the extent of their network. Now, he finally did. If ten billion dollars was pocket change, the Wade family's net worth must exceed one trillion dollars.
He was stunned. However, remembering his deceased parents and his grandfather's role in their deaths, he knew he could never forgive him.
Noticing Charlie's distress, Stephen said, "Young Master, as a Wade family member, this money is yours. It essentially belongs to your father."
"The Master said if you're willing to return home, he'll let you inherit the family's trillion-dollar business empire. If not, use this money for living expenses."
"Oh, and Aurouss Hill's largest and most successful company, the Emgrand Group, with a market value of one hundred billion dollars, was acquired by the Wade family yesterday. All shares are now in your name. You can claim them tomorrow!"
Charlie stared, utterly dumbfounded. Was this an excessive investment from the Wade family? A black card with ten billion dollars, and the Emgrand Group, worth one hundred billion dollars!
Aurouss Hill had many skilled people, but the Emgrand Group stood out as the most successful company. It was the champion of Aurouss Hill's business sector! Any prominent family, including those who had humiliated him—the Wilsons, Whites, and even the Jones family pursuing his wife—would bow before Emgrand. And now, it was his?
Stephen handed him a business card. "Young Master, you need time to process this. I'll leave now. This is my card; call if you need anything." Stephen left.
Charlie remained in a daze. He wasn't sure whether to accept this from the Wade family. He thought of his years of hardship and the humiliation he suffered after marrying Claire Wilson.
Gripping the card, he returned to the hospital cashier. "I'd like to settle the bill."
Two million dollars were credited to the hospital's account. Charlie still felt unreal.
He went home, finding the house filled with tension. Claire Wilson and her parents weren't at the Wilson family home; they were living in a modest apartment. They'd been evicted after Lord Wilson's death.
His mother-in-law shrieked, "Charlie Wade, that loser! He's an embarrassment! If you don't divorce him, your grandmother will kick you out of the Wilson family!"
Claire said calmly, "If she does, I'll find another job."
Her mother raged, "What's so great about that loser? Why won't you divorce him and marry Wendell? If you marry Wendell Jones, our whole family's status will rise!"
Her father added, "Your mother's right! Marrying Wendell will make us invaluable. Your grandmother will adore you!"
Claire said firmly, "Stop it. I won't divorce Charlie."
Her parents were about to continue when Charlie entered.
His in-laws glared. His mother-in-law sneered, "I thought you'd forgotten your way home, loser!"
Charlie sighed inwardly. His mother-in-law always looked down on him, but what would she say if she knew he owned Emgrand Group and had ten billion dollars? He'd been estranged from the Wade family for so long; he wondered about their current situation and the risk of revealing himself.
He bowed his head humbly, "Mom, I'm sorry for the trouble I caused."
His mother-in-law shouted, "Trouble? You're jeopardizing us! Can't you leave our house?"
Claire intervened, "Mom, how can you say that? Charlie is your son-in-law!"
"Bullshit!" his mother-in-law roared. "I don't have a loser like him as a son-in-law! He should leave!"
Claire urged Charlie, "Come on, let's go to our room."
Charlie nodded gratefully and escaped to their room. They'd been married three years but hadn't consummated their marriage. Claire slept in the bed; he slept on the floor.
That night, Charlie found it hard to sleep. The day's events were overwhelming.
Before bed, Claire said, "How's Mrs. Lewis? I have about one hundred thousand dollars; you can use it tomorrow."
Charlie replied, "It's fine. Someone paid her bill and moved her to Eastcliff for treatment."
Claire exclaimed, "Mrs. Lewis will be okay then?"
"Yes," Charlie said. "Mrs. Lewis has always been kind and helped many. Now, someone's returning the favor."
"Thankful to hear that," Claire nodded. "You can rest easy now."
"Yes."
"I want to sleep now. I'm tired from work."
"What's happening at work?"
"It's not going well. Grandma wants to collaborate with Emgrand, but the Wilson family is too weak. They wouldn't even consider us."
"Oh? Wasn't there a partnership between the Wilson family and Emgrand before?"
Claire chuckled dryly. "Of course not! What are we to Emgrand? We're insignificant. Even Gerald's family—Wendy's future in-laws—can barely make a dent in Emgrand's empire. That's why Grandma wants them to marry quickly, so the White family can help us build connections with Emgrand."
Charlie understood. The Wilson family had tried everything to work with Emgrand. But they never imagined he now owned it.
Charlie decided to take control of Emgrand Group and help Claire with her business. The Wilson family hadn't treated her fairly, and he had a responsibility to help raise her status. He vowed silently, "Claire Wilson, your husband is different now! I won't let anyone look down on you again! I'll make the entire Wilson family respect you!"
