Listen to this chapter:

The next morning, after preparing breakfast, Charlie Wade rode his scooter to Emgrand Group's office. He parked his mobility scooter near the Emgrand vehicle parking lot. He was impeccably dressed; she wore a flamboyant, somewhat gaudy outfit. The woman, a striking figure, was Wendy Wilson, Claire Wilson's cousin, and the man was her fiancé, Gerald White. Charlie Wade didn't understand why they were there, but he knew the best way to avoid trouble was to stay away. The more he tried to hide, the more likely they were to see him.

Wendy spotted him. "Hey, Charlie Wade!" she called out.

Her friendly tone didn't ease his unease; he felt goosebumps. Out of politeness, he waited for them to approach. He grinned and asked, "Wendy, hi there. Why are you here?"

Wendy chuckled. "Oh, Gerald's here to see Doris Young, vice-chairman of Emgrand Group! I'm here to support him." She looked at Gerald affectionately. "The White family has significant business with Emgrand Group. It benefits both the White and Wilson families."

Charlie Wade was unaware that the Whites were major business partners. He'd only recently taken over the company and hadn't had time to familiarize himself with everything. Maintaining a composed expression, he said with a respectful smile, "Mr. White is very accomplished and impressive. You two make a lovely couple!"

Gerald glared at Charlie Wade contemptuously, seething with anger. This "loser," humiliated by Wendy the previous day, was acting as if nothing had happened. Why would Claire Wilson, such a stunning woman, marry such a man? If Charlie Wade didn't exist, he would have pursued Claire relentlessly. Who would choose Wendy when she paled in comparison in every way?

Huffing in disgust, Gerald pompously asked, "Why are you here?"

"I'm here to apply for a job," Charlie Wade replied.

Gerald sneered. "You? The loser who can't do anything wants a job at Emgrand Group? Are you kidding me?"

Charlie Wade frowned. "What's it to you?"

Wendy, seizing the opportunity to belittle him, mocked, "Why, because they wouldn't hire a loser like you, even for a security job! You're better off begging on the streets; you might make two or three thousand a month that way!" She tossed a water bottle at his feet. "There you go. Sell it for cash! Don't say I didn't care."

Gerald chuckled sinisterly. "You're garbage, but we're family. I'll help. I know the vice-chairman personally. Perhaps I can recommend you for a bathroom cleaning job?"

Charlie Wade sneered. "What job I apply for is none of your business. Mind your own. Emgrand Group is a large company; I doubt they'd want to associate with lowlifes like you."

Gerald's face flushed. "Who are you calling a lowlife?"

"You," Charlie Wade retorted.

He walked toward the building, ignoring Gerald's enraged shouts. "Damn you! Stop! Stop right there!"

Gerald quickly caught up with him at the elevator. He wanted to slap Charlie Wade, but he was inside the Emgrand building. He worried that violence would damage his reputation, so he held back.

Gritting his teeth, he warned, "I'll let you go today, but you won't be so lucky next time!"

Charlie Wade entered the elevator. Before the doors closed, he said, "Gerald White, do you really think you're so powerful? You'll soon learn the price of your arrogance!"

"You little"

Gerald's face turned crimson. Wendy pulled him back. "Gerald, don't take the same elevator as that loser; we might suffocate from his stench."

"Hah, you're lucky today. I'll teach you a lesson next time!"

In the elevator, Charlie Wade went to the top floor, where the chairman's office was located. Stephen had arranged everything for him. She had been promoted to Vice-Chairman at a young age. Since the Wade family acquired Emgrand Group, the previous chairman had resigned, and Doris remained to assist the new chairman. Doris was surprised to see Charlie Wade. She hadn't expected such a young and handsome man, having only read about him from Stephen. She composed herself and greeted him respectfully. "Welcome, Mr. Wade. Please follow me to my office."
