The Amazing Son in Law: Chapters 876-880

Chapter 876

In the kitchen, Matilda, wearing her apron, and Jacob Wilson worked diligently together, preparing a meal. Jacob cherished this moment; he'd dreamed of such a day for twenty yearsโ€”a sumptuous dinner shared with his beloved Matilda. His dream finally came true.

Matilda was overcome with emotion. After over twenty years of living in the United States with her husband, cooking together was common, but this felt different. She felt an immense sense of intimacy with Jacob; simply being near him brought her joy and satisfaction.

Their close proximity while cooking resulted in frequent, accidental touches. Their faces flushed. As each other's first loves, sharing a deep bond from their past, their rekindled feelings were palpable. A powerful, undeniable attraction existed between them.

Countless times, Jacob felt the urge to embrace Matilda, but his timidity held him back. Even Matilda, usually capable in the kitchen, found herself distracted by Jacob's presence, nearly cutting herself several times. Jacob, too, was distracted, his focus more on Matilda than on the cooking.

He even regretted moving to Thompson First's large villa. Their previous smaller kitchen would have forced closer contact. The spacious villa kitchen, however, allowed them ample space, making even the simplest interactions feel calculated. Jacob longed for more intimacy.

After a long internal struggle, as Matilda added shrimp to the Longjing shrimp dish, Jacob finally found his courage. He embraced her from behind, whispering excitedly, "Matilda, I've missed you so much these past twenty years!"

Chapter 877

Matilda stiffened at Jacob's embrace. Deep down, she longed for this moment. He was the only man she had ever loved. His touch, his hands clasped on her belly, transported her back to her youth. Overwhelmed with emotion, she instinctively placed her hand on his.

Immediately, she realized her mistake. She pulled away, nervously adjusting her hair. "Jacob Wilson," she said awkwardly, "we can't do this. You're married. I can't hurt Elaine Ma."

Jacob protested, "She was jealous of you, she took advantage of me when I was drunk. If she hadn't been so shameless, we would have been together!"

Matilda sighed. "Even if she was at fault, I chose to let go. I won't be like her. I'm sorry for both of you. This is a matter of principle."

Jacob pleaded, "That woman ruined our lives! Do you still need to consider principles now?"

Matilda insisted, "I know Elaine Ma is a villain, but I can't become one myself. You're her husband. I can meet and eat with you as a friend, but a relationship is impossible"

Jacob's tears flowed. "Is it impossible for us? After all these years, don't you want to make up for our past regret?"

Matilda's expression was pained. "Of course I do. That's why I came back. But we need to be careful. We can only be together after you and Elaine Ma divorce."

Jacob blurted out, "Then I'll divorce her immediately!"

Matilda corrected him, "Jacob Wilson, don't misunderstand. That doesn't mean we'll be together."

Chapter 878

Jacob, confused, asked, "Matilda, what do you mean? Don't you want to be with me?"

Matilda explained, "We haven't seen each other in years. We can't suddenly decide to be together. Life is different from love. Especially at our age, we must consider our children and their views."

Jacob couldn't accept this. "We both have feelings! What can't we overcome?" He pressed her, "Matilda, tell the truth, do you still have feelings for me?"

Matilda replied hesitantly, "How can I answer that? Our past was so good, our first love it's self-deception. But it's not just about feelings."

Jacob wept, his years of emotional hardship evident. Seeing Matilda, he realized how miserable his life had been without her.

Seeing his tears, Matilda's eyes reddened. She wiped away his tears. "Jacob Wilson, you've suffered so much. If we could go back, even if you and Elaine Ma had a child, I wouldn't give up"

She sighed, "But time is gone. We're middle-aged now."

Jacob grabbed her hand. "Matilda! We shouldn't let down our future! We can't let down a second!" He knelt, blurting, "Matilda, I want to be with you!"

Matilda panicked, pulling him up. "Jacob Wilson, what are you doing? Get up!"

Jacob refused, "If you don't agree, I won't get up!"

Matilda glanced at the kitchen door, worried about their children seeing them.

Jacob declared, "If Paul comes in, I'll tell him I love his mother. If it was Elaine, I'll tell her I love you and want a divorce!"

Chapter 879

Jacob poured out his heart to Matilda. "Matilda, I'm not joking. These past twenty years have been unhappy. We're this old, why can't we pursue true love?"

Matilda sighed. "I've thought about it. I have illusions, too. But the situation is different now. I hate being a third party. We shouldn't rush. Give me time, and I'll give you time."

Jacob asked urgently, "Will you be with me after I divorce Elaine Ma?"

Matilda, looking intently at him, said, "One of my reasons for returning to China was to see you again. I hope to continue with you. But we're not 18 anymore. I can't answer your question yet. After you're single, we'll try getting along, then I'll answer."

Jacob readily agreed. Matilda urged him to seriously consider his marriage to Elaine Ma, advising him to be honest with her about his feelings.

Matilda, a successful woman, lacked true love. Jacob was her obsession. Her return to China was to rediscover their love.

Jacob declared, "Matilda, as long as you want me, I'll divorce Elaine Ma!"

Matilda responded, "Whether it was intentional or not, you betrayed our feelings. If you want to make amends, I'm willing to give you a chance."

Jacob, overcome with emotion, again embraced Matilda. "Matilda, I regretted it for twenty years. I won't regret it again. Wait for me!"

Matilda nodded, "Okay. I'll wait. But you can't hold me like this, it's wrong!"

Chapter 880

Jacob insisted, "Whether it's right or wrong, I want to hold you."

Matilda struggled internally, wanting to relish the embrace, but her moral compass conflicted. "Let me go! It's not right, and I have to cookโ€ฆ"

Jacob said, "We both have feelings for each other. What's wrong with that?"

He leaned in to kiss her. Matilda dodged, "Have we talked long enough?"

Suddenly, a burning smell filled the kitchen.

Matilda cried, "Oh, my Longjing Shrimp!" She pushed Jacob away and rushed to the stove, lamenting, "It's ruined, the shrimp is overcooked!"

Jacob suggested, "I'll go buy you more shrimp."

Charlie Wade and Paul, smelling the burnt food, wondered what was going on. Charlie offered to investigate while assuring Paul to remain calm.

Charlie Wade's real intention was to watch the drama unfold. He entered the kitchen, finding Matilda and Jacob cleaning up. He was disappointed, there was no evidence of a passionate encounter, only a burnt pot of shrimp and some flustered individuals.

He feigned surprise, "Dad, Matilda, what burned? Are you alright?"

Jacob nervously replied, "Nothing's wrong, just a burnt pot."

Charlie Wade's suspicion remained; their flushed faces and nervous demeanor betrayed more than just a burnt meal. Jacob, with a guilty conscience, wanted Charlie and Paul to leave them alone.
