The Amazing Son-in-Law Chapter 941

Two BMWs, one behind the other, pulled up to Thompson First's large villa. Jacob Wilson was berated by Elaine Ma the entire ride, fueling his growing dissatisfaction. He'd been singing a love song with his first love when Elaine called, leaving him feeling guilty. Her call angered him, prompting a hurried trip to the hospital. However, having calmed down, he found Elaine increasingly hopeless, solidifying his desire for a divorce.

After exiting the car, Jacob tossed the crutch he'd purchased at the hospital into the back seat for Elaine. She expected assistance getting inside, perhaps even carrying her in, but he simply tossed her the crutch.

Elaine clutched the crutch, cursing, "Jacob Wilson, you bastard! My leg is broken! You throw me a crutch?"

Jacob retorted, "You'll need to get used to crutches sooner or later. What will you do if you need to use the bathroom?"

"What's that supposed to mean?" Elaine demanded angrily. "Are you saying you won't help me anymore?"

Jacob, scowling, said, "Don't forget, we're separated!"

Elaine was about to yell when Charlie Wade pulled up in front of the villa. As Claire exited the car, Elaine immediately began complaining. Hoping to de-escalate the situation, Claire quickly supported her mother, saying, "Mom, don't be angry with Dad. It's bad for your health."

Elaine tried to continue her tirade but felt dizzy and realized she was suffering from hypoglycemia due to prolonged hunger. Weakly, she said, "Oh, I'm going to die! I'm starving to death! Where's Charlie Wade? Cook for me! I want braised pork and beef stew!"

Charlie replied flatly, "I haven't had time to shop today. All I have are noodles. I can make you a bowl of noodles."

"I haven't eaten for two days and nights!" Elaine exclaimed. "What good is a bowl of noodles?"

Charlie calmly said, "Then I'll go shopping now."

"I'll faint from hunger by the time you get back!" she cried.

"Why don't I order takeout?" Charlie suggested.

"Takeout takes forty minutes!" Elaine retorted. "Just cook the noodles and add two eggs!"

"There are no eggs; I haven't bought any yet," Charlie said casually.

"Then add some vegetables! I haven't had any vegetables in two days, and my mouth is burning!"

Charlie shrugged. "There's nothing but dried noodles. If you want to eat, I'll give you a bowl of plain noodle soup."

Elaine stamped her foot, pointing at Charlie and asking Claire, "Claire, is this good-for-nothing deliberately antagonizing me? Why is there nothing in the house?"

Claire looked embarrassed.

Charlie explained, "I've been looking after you for two days. I haven't cooked or gone shopping."

Elaine, too weak to argue further, said, "Then quickly make me a bowl of noodles!"

Charlie went to the kitchen. He actually had a carton of eggs in the refrigerator, but rather than give them to Elaine, he smashed them and flushed them down the drain. Wasting eggs was better than letting Elaine eat them.

He boiled some water, grabbed a handful of noodles, and threw them in, perfunctorily preparing the meal. Just then, he received a WeChat message.

He opened it and saw a message in the "Aurouss Hill Welfare Institute" group chat. The twenty or thirty people in the group were orphans raised by Mrs. Lewis. They were scattered across the country and weren't particularly close.

The message was from a girl named Lisa Fey: "Secretly telling everyone some good news: Mrs. Lewis has recovered and returned to Aurouss Hill!"

Lisa was a girl Charlie had known at the orphanage. Abandoned as a baby, she was raised by Mrs. Lewis. A couple of years younger than Charlie, she was like a little sister to him. Mrs. Lewis, not knowing Lisa's surname, had named her. As an adult, Lisa worked with Mrs. Lewis at the orphanage, the only one from their group who remained.

Charlie quickly replied, "Why didn't Mrs. Lewis tell us? We should go pick her up."

Lisa said, "Brother Charlie, Mrs. Lewis didn't want to trouble you. I only found out this afternoon."

Charlie asked, "How is her health? Is she alright? She just recovered and was discharged; won't she go back to work at the orphanage?"

"Yes!" Lisa replied. "You know Mrs. Lewis better than anyone. How can she stay away? She's missed the children terribly."

She added, "But she looks great. You wouldn't think she'd been seriously ill. She's completely recovered!"

Charlie breathed a sigh of relief. Stephen Thompson had sent Mrs. Lewis to the best hospital in Eastcliff and paid for her expensive treatment.

Other group members then chimed in:

"Mrs. Lewis is discharged? That's wonderful!"

"Mrs. Lewis is such a good person; I knew she'd recover!"

Jeff Mowry suggested, "Since Mrs. Lewis is home, let's visit her and have a celebratory dinner. What do you think?"

"Great idea, Jeff! I'll be free soon!"

"Yes, we should celebrate Mrs. Lewis's recovery!"

Lisa added, "That's why I messaged everyone. It's been a long time, so let's get together and have dinner with Mrs. Lewis."

"Can't we wait a day or two? Let's wait for those of us further away, or I'll buy a plane ticket!"

Jeff said, "A celebratory dinner should be done right away!"

Caleb Morales added, "Mrs. Lewis had such a serious illness. If we don't see her right away, she might be disappointed."

Jeff suggested a five-star hotel.

Lisa countered, "Mrs. Lewis is thrifty. She'd be uncomfortable at a fancy restaurant. Let's go to the home-style restaurant near the orphanage that's been there for years."

Charlie sighed remembering the restaurant. On his eighteenth birthday, Mrs. Lewis had taken him and a few friends there for a meal and a cake. It was the best meal he'd ever had.

He said, "That restaurant is still open! That's a great choice, Lisa!"

Jeff scoffed, "Charlie Wade, we all have savings. Don't be stingy with Mrs. Lewis."

Charlie said, "I'm not stingy, I respect her habits. She'd be uncomfortable at a five-star hotel; she'd feel it's wasteful."

Jeff said, "Don't I know you? You're just trying to save money." He then sent a voice message: "I know you're not doing well as a son-in-law, but Mrs. Lewis raised you. Even if it's just a token, you should treat her to a nice meal."

Charlie frowned. Jeff had always been difficult. He'd bullied other children at the orphanage, including Charlie, but Charlie's martial arts skills meant he could always hold his own. Jeff had held a grudge ever since. He was always causing trouble, often getting into trouble for stealing, only saved by Mrs. Lewis.

Charlie didn't bother engaging, simply saying, "I think Lisa's suggestion is best."

Lisa agreed. Caleb and others followed suit. Lisa said, "Ten of us will be there tonight, and nine want the old restaurant. The majority wins! I'll book a room!"

"Great!" everyone agreed.

The Amazing Son-in-Law Chapter 944

Charlie was excited to see Mrs. Lewis. He hadn't seen her since she'd been hospitalized after the birthday incident. He was close to Mrs. Lewis, almost viewing her as his mother. When she fell ill, he'd frantically searched for money, even considering selling blood and taking money from Claire to save her. He felt he’d barely repaid her kindness. His father had taught him the importance of gratitude.

He left the noodles boiling and told Claire, "I have to go; it's urgent."

Elaine immediately demanded, "Have you cooked my noodles? You want to leave without even feeding me?"

Charlie looked at her with disgust, "The noodles are boiling; you can eat them later. Mrs. Lewis has recovered and I'm going to pick her up."

Elaine scolded, "What's your attitude? You dare speak to me like that for some lady from a welfare institution? Do you even have any sense of respect? Don't forget who you're living with!"

She sneered, "What does it matter if the lady is dead?"

Charlie, long-suffering Elaine’s abuse, had hoped her hospital stay would change her. Instead, she insulted Mrs. Lewis!

He stared at her and said angrily, "I provide for myself. Don't forget, this house was given to me, and I furnished it with my own money. If you're unhappy, move out!"

Elaine was speechless. She couldn't scold him as freely as before; his financial situation was different. She was penniless. If he kicked her out, she’d have nowhere to go. Feeling guilty, she looked at Charlie nervously.

She looked at Claire aggrievedly, "Claire, your husband is too much! Any son-in-law would treat his mother-in-law with more respect. You should say something!"

Surprisingly, Claire said seriously, "Mom, Charlie's right. We live in a house given to him. You can't treat him like you did before; it's unfair!"

The Amazing Son-in-Law Chapter 945

Elaine felt despondent. Her husband ignored her, her son-in-law was defying her, and even Claire was against her. She feigned tears, "There's no place for me in this house. Your father doesn't care for me, your husband threatens to kick me out, and even you"

Claire sighed, "Mom, you were wrong. I can't always take your side."

While she felt sorry for her mother's suffering, it didn't excuse her outburst or insults toward Mrs. Lewis. Claire knew Charlie was a kind person with few relatives; Mrs. Lewis was like a mother to him. She admired his gratitude and hadn't hesitated to let him use her savings for Mrs. Lewis's treatment. She felt her mother was in the wrong.

Elaine cried, "My life is so pitiful. Is there even a place for me in this family?"

Charlie, tired of her theatrics, said to Claire, "I'm going to the orphanage. Eat at home."

Claire said, "I'll come with you. I miss Mrs. Lewis." She always supported Charlie and often visited Mrs. Lewis in the hospital. Mrs. Lewis liked her too.

Charlie nodded, "Let's go together. Mrs. Lewis asked about you last time."

Claire said, "Let's go now."

Elaine cried, "Daughter, are you angry with me? You're ignoring me?"

Claire said seriously, "Mom, I hope you'll reflect on your behavior and change. Otherwise, you'll continue to suffer."

Elaine sat on the floor, "What's the point of living? My only daughter is ignoring meI might as well die in jail"

Claire, unlike before, understood that constantly condoning her mother's behavior was harmful and she could no longer allow it to continue.
