Chapter 976

Jeff waved his hand dismissively and said, "Yes, of course you can. If you can't, just give it to me!"

He added, "Oh yes, two bottles of Ace of Spades champagne!"

The waiter replied, "Sir, a bottle of Ace of Spades champagne costs $18,888. Opening the bottle makes it non-refundable."

Jeff immediately said, "Yes! Hurry up!"

Hearing his order for two $18,888 bottles of wine, the others stirred uneasily. The meal already exceeded $60,000. Even splitting the bill, each person would owe at least $30,000! With a round-robin system, that would be over $2,000 per person.

William said hesitantly, "Jeff, we don't need to be so extravagant. I invited Mrs. Lewis; she's just recovering from an illness and can't drink. What's the point of all this wine?"

Jeff scoffed, "William, I just pity your poverty. A simple meal, and you're worried about a few extra dollars?"

Before William could respond, Jeff told the waiter, "Bring another large grouper and a shark fin in abalone sauce for everyone!"

Jeff simply wanted a larger bill to increase his earnings. The others worried about the escalating cost, but felt too awkward to object, especially with Mrs. Lewis present.

Mrs. Lewis, unable to remain silent, nervously said, "Jeff, we really don't need to be so extravagant. Auntie is serious. Could we order something cheaper? Something simpler?"

Jeff, unwilling to pass up an opportunity for profit, couldn't accept a few thousand-dollar meal. He hastily said, "Mrs. Lewis, consider this my treat. We're indebted to you—your kindness surpasses Mount Everest. Even $30,000, $40,000, or $50,000, I'll pay it willingly!"

He scanned the table, observing their reactions. His statement was blatant emotional manipulation, implying anyone unwilling to contribute was ungrateful.

His ploy worked; nobody voiced their objections. They rationalized their silence due to Mrs. Lewis's presence.

Charlie Wade sensed something was amiss. Jeff's previous actions (deliberately crashing his car to avoid a bet) suggested he was ungenerous and unscrupulous. Why such extravagance now?

Perhaps a larger bill benefitted him somehow. Since Jeff offered to pay half, he wasn't likely in cahoots with the restaurant. The only other explanation was reimbursement. Jeff was manipulating everyone.

Charlie Wade decided to counter Jeff's scheme. "Everyone, let's settle this. Jeff and I will split the bill; the rest of you pay nothing. Even if it costs $200,000, it's on us."

Chapter 977

Jeff sneered, "Oh, Charlie Wade, you're quite the braggart!"

Charlie Wade calmly replied, "What's the bragging? Let's pre-pay $100,000 for a $200,000 meal. What do you say?"

Jeff was excited, "Really?"

Charlie Wade opened Apple Pay and said to the waiter, "Scan this to pay."

Jeff was ecstatic. He'd planned to inflate the bill for reimbursement, but his friends' suspicions irked him. Charlie Wade's willingness to split the bill, even prepaying, was a gift. He'd pay $100,000 but claim $200,000, telling his boss it was a high-value client to justify a larger commission.

He decided to defraud his friends, report the $200,000, and resolve his problem with Caesar. He'd worry about future repercussions later; Caesar was his immediate threat.

He said to Charlie Wade, "Since you're so generous, I'll also pay $100,000!"

Mrs. Lewis tried to stop them, but Charlie Wade gestured for her to remain calm. He saw through Jeff's scheme. For him, $100,000 or $200,000 was insignificant; stopping Jeff was the priority.

The waiter processed two $100,000 Apple Pay payments.

After confirming payment, Jeff declared, "Let's order the best! Waiter, everything—wine, food, seafood! We'll spend the whole $200,000!"

The waiter, excited by such high-spending clients, readily agreed.

Many at the table were thrilled, especially William, whose face lit up. His earlier anxiety vanished; he couldn't wait to gorge on the luxurious meal. Many people have this attitude; they are less burdened by expensive things if they don't have to pay for them.

The waiter brought lobster, abalone, and a roasted suckling pig.

Chapter 978

William savored the $20,000 champagne, a luxury he'd never experienced.

Harry, Jeff's lackey, commented, "I feel like the richest man in Star City! This is just like those movies!"

Others agreed.

Harry added, "Thanks to Brother Jeff!"

Lisa corrected, "Why only thank Jeff? Charlie Wade paid half!"

Harry dismissively replied, "I ate Jeff's share; you ate Charlie Wade's. It doesn't concern me."

William, mouth full, asked, "What were you talking about? The richest man? I don't get it."

Harry explained the movie reference.

William scoffed, "I don't go to cinemas! Why should I pay for their movies? I always download illegally. I'll download this movie tonight."

Harry retorted, "People invest millions! Directors, cameramen, writers, actors If it's free, who'll make movies?"

William remained unapologetic, boasting about his ability to get things for free.

Harry called him shameless and warned of retribution.

William defiantly declared his lack of fear.

Charlie Wade observed, noting that while some overcome humble beginnings, others remain complacent and entitled. William embodies the latter: disrespectful, self-absorbed, and obsessed with freebies. He foresaw William's future subservience to Jeff.

Charlie Wade was ready to see how it would all play out.

Chapter 979

While everyone enjoyed the meal, Charlie Wade went to the front desk for an invoice.

The waiter confirmed the $200,000 bill and asked for Charlie Wade's name and whether he wanted a company or personal invoice. Charlie Wade requested a personal invoice under the name "Charlie Wade".

Charlie Wade received the invoice and returned to the table, secretly pleased.

Claire, sensing Charlie Wade's scheme, asked, "Are you up to something?"

Charlie Wade playfully denied it.

Claire persisted, "I feel like you're setting up Jeff"

Charlie Wade confessed, "My dear wife, you're right!"

Chapter 980

Jeff, intoxicated, announced he was going to the bathroom, urging everyone to finish the expensive wine.

William offered to accompany him.

En route, William excitedly told Jeff that he'd already registered several loan applications, noting the fast hotel internet.

Jeff, recognizing William's unscrupulous nature, instructed him to borrow the maximum amount from each app, transferring the money to Jeff's account, promising to manage the funds and return the principal and profits in a week.

William agreed eagerly.

He mentioned needing to upload his ID, which he didn't have with him.

Jeff reassured him and outlined a scheme to leverage William's girlfriend and future mother-in-law for larger loans, promising massive returns. William eagerly agreed, seeing this as a way to impress his future mother-in-law.

Jeff, leaving William to obtain the loans, went to the front desk for his company invoice only to discover Charlie Wade had already obtained the personal invoice, meaning Jeff couldn't be reimbursed. Jeff, enraged, realized not only did he not profit, but he lost $100,000. His final thought, muttered in anger, was: "It's Charlie Wade again!"
