The Amazing Son in Law: Chapters 1316-1320
Chapter 1316
Charlie Wade nodded. "If you don't believe it, we can walk around and see."
Coach Blanks sneered. "Walk and see! I'll wait here to see Aurora lose this game!"
He went to the nearby audience seats, found an empty one, and sat down, arms folded, a smug look on his face. He was certain Aurora would lose.
Ignoring him, Charlie Wade whispered to Aurora, "Don't be nervous. Fight as I said. I believe you can win."
Aurora nodded vigorously. With a pleading look, she said, "Master Wade, Coach Blanks is gone. I won't have a coach. If I win, there might be more matches. Will you be my coach?"
Charlie Wade replied without hesitation, "No problem. I'll be your coach from now on."
Aurora cheered. "Great! I'll call you Coach Wade!"
Charlie Wade smiled. "Call me whatever you like."
The referee rang the bell for the third round.
Aurora stood, stretched, and said resolutely, "Coach Wade, I'm going to play!"
Charlie Wade nodded. "Go get 'em!"
The Thai player also walked to the center of the ring, her expression relaxed, even contemptuous. She'd already won many points; a steady performance in the next three rounds would secure her victory and a place in the quarterfinals.
Aurora focused on the tactics Charlie Wade had given her, already knowing her strategy.
The referee started the third round.
Chapter 1317
Coach Blanks watched from the sidelines, sneering as Aurora passively defended. He considered her tactics weak. He believed that since the opponent's lower attacks were fast and upper attacks weaker, Aurora should attack the opponent's lower body, mirroring the opponent's strategy. This is traditional coaching thinking, but it's also why most coaches aren't top-tier.
Charlie Wade believed the best strategy was to defeat the opponent's strongest weapon. In war, defeating the enemy's ace division weakens them and creates chaos. Destroying smaller units only risks drawing the main force's attention. In Sanda, if an opponent excels at punches, disable their punches; if they excel at kicks, disable their kicks. Leaving their strongest weapon intact is a major risk.
The Thai player was best with her right leg. Even successful upper-body attacks wouldn't significantly impact her. If Aurora was hit by the opponent's leg, she'd likely lose quickly. Therefore, Charlie Wade instructed Aurora to find her opponent's weaknesses in their lower body attacks. Aurora seized the opportunity when it came.
Seeing Aurora's fierce kick, the Thai player dodged, then Aurora stepped hard, striking the Thai player's kicking leg, causing a cry of pain. The Thai player felt a sharp pain, her leg feeling like it might break. This pain destabilized her; she stumbled back, shocked and incredulous. She hadn't expected Aurora to counter her lower attack.
The largely Chinese audience cheered. Charlie Wade looked at Aurora approvingly; she had shown talent in seizing the opportunity. The balance had shifted; the Thai player's injured leg made her no match for Aurora. This kick secured Aurora's victory.
Chapter 1318
Coach Blanks looked grim. He hadn't expected Aurora to exploit the opponent's weakness. The kick was powerful, and the injury looked serious. He saw Aurora had won; it was only a matter of time.
He felt regret. Aurora's quarterfinal advancement was no longer connected to him.
Aurora now defended and retreated less, launching a series of attacks. The injured leg hampered the Thai player, causing pain with every step. Her right leg hindered her defense, dodges, and counterattacks. Most of Aurora's attacks landed. The formerly offensive Thai player could only flee.
Aurora, remembering Charlie Wade's instructions, kept her eye on the opponent's lower body, looking for another opportunity. She saw a chance during a retreat. She delivered a whip kick to the injured leg, causing a scream. Aurora hadn't used full force; a full-power kick would have broken the leg. She gave the opponent a chance; she didn't want to permanently injure her. Limb injuries are career-ending for Sanda athletes.
The Thai player realized Aurora had shown mercy and felt grateful. The right leg was her pride. Losing it would end her career. She was only in her early twenties. She stepped back and gave Aurora a grateful fist bump. Her coach threw in the towel.
Chapter 1319
The referee announced Aurora's victory, and she had advanced to the quarterfinals—her best result ever in an international college Sanda competition. Last year in Canada, she hadn't even made it past the group stage.
After shaking hands with the Thai player, Aurora ran to Charlie Wade, jumping into his arms.
"Master Wade, thank you so much!"
She hugged him tightly. Charlie Wade, surprised but sensing her joy, hugged her back and spun her twice. "You're in the quarterfinals; imagine how happy you'll be if you win the championship!"
Blushing, Aurora hugged him tighter. "I never expected to win the championship. Reaching the top eight is amazing enough."
Charlie Wade smiled. "You said you were sure to get a good ranking."
Aurora blushed. "I was afraid you'd dislike me, Master Wade. I never really thought about a medal…"
"Okay," Charlie Wade said, smiling. "Let go; everyone's watching—your father and brother too."
Aurora realized she was still clinging to him. Charlie Wade was thoughtful; her figure was excellent, her skin smooth as jade, and she was only wearing a sports bra and shorts.
Blushing, Aurora quickly jumped down. Mr. Quinton watched his daughter with a smile; he'd hoped for progress between her and Master Wade.
Chapter 1320
Charlie Wade said to Aurora, "Don't forget your father and brother. Let's go over."
Aurora blushed, remembering she’d focused only on Charlie Wade.
Steven Quinton gave her a thumbs-up. "Sister, that was amazing! I thought you'd lose after the first two rounds!"
Mr. Quinton said, "I was so nervous!"
Aurora said, "Thanks to Master Wade's advice, or I would have lost…" She affectionately linked arms with Charlie Wade. "And Master Wade will be my coach!"
Mr. Quinton was excited but nervous. "Master Wade manages so much. How can he coach you? What if it delays his work?"
Aurora worried she might be inconveniencing Charlie Wade.
Charlie Wade smiled. "I'm free. This isn't just a kid's game; Aurora is fighting for China's honor. I want her to win."
Mr. Quinton breathed a sigh of relief. "Aurora, train hard! Reward Master Wade with a good ranking!"
"I will!" Aurora said excitedly.
Charlie Wade smiled. "Aim for the championship."
Aurora mentioned the strong competition, especially Ito Nanako, Japan's top player, a disciple of Yamamoto Kazuki. She'd won two international competitions and aimed for a third.
Charlie Wade smiled. "Don't worry. With me, she won't stand a chance."
"Really?!" Aurora asked excitedly.
Charlie Wade nodded. "I said it, so it's true!"
"Great!" Aurora cheered.
Coach Blanks approached, congratulating Aurora. He suggested continuing to coach her.
Aurora resolutely refused, stating she had a new coach.
Coach Blanks looked contemptuously at Charlie Wade, dismissing him as unprofessional and calling his earlier success luck.
Aurora retorted indignantly, "Coach Wade is the best coach in the world!"
