Chapter 1436

Claire Wilson pulled Charlie Wade aside, complaining, "Mom casually mentioned this morning—why did you buy her such expensive skincare products? A $400,000 set is terrifying! What kind of family are we?"

Charlie Wade smiled. "Isn't there a special reason? Don't worry about it."

Claire whispered, "I'm afraid Mom will keep asking for expensive skincare. What will you do then?"

Charlie smiled slightly. "Don't worry. Haven't you noticed she's been much better lately? Consider it a reward for her improved behavior; it might encourage her to continue."

Just then, Elaine Ma filmed a short video for social media, exclaiming, "Look at these two caviar skincare sets my wonderful son-in-law bought me! Platinum suits! They cost over $700,000!"

Charlie Wade immediately said, "Mom, these aren't just for you; one is for Claire."

"Ah?" Elaine said distressedly. "Claire's young and naturally beautiful; she doesn't need anti-aging products! Moisturizer is enough!"

Charlie firmly stated, "No. They're one set each. You can't take Claire's."

Elaine, though reluctant, didn't dare to argue with Charlie. She could only nod angrily, "Fine, Mom listens to you. Claire and I will each have a set."

Claire said, "I can't bear to use something so expensive"

Elaine's eyes lit up, but before she could speak, Charlie said, "My wife, if you don't want to use it, I'll take them both back."

"Hey, don't!" Elaine panicked. "Claire, this is Charlie's thoughtful gift. Don't be ungrateful!"

Claire tried to speak, but Charlie handed her a set, saying seriously, "My wife, use it with confidence! I'll buy you more when you run out!"

Claire, feeling Charlie's love, smiled and accepted the gift.

Elaine excitedly said, "I'm going to my room to wash my face and try them! I can't wait!"

She took the cosmetics and went to the third floor. Claire sighed helplessly. Her mother's vanity seemed incurable. However, her mother was better; she treated Charlie better and wasn't as aggressive at home, creating a more stable home environment.

Suddenly, Claire received a call from her mother.

"Mom, what's wrong?"

Elaine said anxiously, "Claire, come to my room! Alone; don't let Charlie follow!"

"What is it, Mom?"

"I'll tell you when you get here!"

Claire told Charlie, "Mom wants me."

Charlie nodded.

Claire went to the third floor and was pulled into Elaine's room, which was immediately locked. Elaine nervously said, "Good girl! I suspect Charlie is cheating!"

"Cheating?" Claire frowned. "Why?"

Elaine produced a receipt, exclaiming, "Look! He bought three platinum skincare sets, but only brought back two! Where's the other one? It must be for another woman!"

Claire instinctively didn't believe her mother. Charlie was sincere; he couldn't be cheating.

"Mom, you're overthinking it! Charlie wouldn't cheat!"

Elaine raised her eyebrows. "Then why did he buy three sets and only bring back one?"

Claire said, "Maybe it was for a friend."

Elaine said scornfully, "Only a fool would believe that! It's obviously for another woman. He's an orphan with no relatives; who else would he buy it for?"

Claire's expression was unnatural. Her mother had a point. Charlie had no female friends locally; who was the extra set for? Could it be Jasmine Moore? She seemed different towards her husband.

However, Claire couldn't believe Jasmine, the head of the Moore family, would have an affair with a married man. Yet, the receipt clearly showed three sets.

While Claire pondered, Elaine whispered, "Girl, tell me, how far have you and Charlie gone?"

Claire asked, "What step?"

Elaine said, "Intimate relations! Did you… give yourself to Charlie?"

Claire's face turned red. "Not yet."

Elaine exploded! "Ah?! Not yet?! You're stupid! Satisfy his needs! What if he finds someone else? He's a multimillionaire; countless women are after him!"

Elaine continued, "Listen to your mother! Get Charlie quickly. Ideally, conceive a child soon. Otherwise, he'll leave, and our family will be ruined! This villa belongs to him! If he divorces you, we'll be kicked out!"

Claire had considered this, but her shyness had held her back. Now, she felt nervous.

Elaine sighed. "I used to look down on Charlie, but he's capable. Look at this $100 million+ villa! If he gets more powerful, he might even buy a Maldivian island!"

Claire awkwardly said, "Mom, stop daydreaming."

Elaine said seriously, "You need to have dreams! It might happen!"

She whispered, "Find out who the third skincare set was for. If he's cheating, stop him! Get him back!"

Claire said seriously, "Mom, don't jump to conclusions. I believe Charlie."

"Be cautious!"

Claire said, "I'll go."

Elaine grabbed her, shoving the receipt into her hand. "Use this as evidence! Ask Charlie!"

Claire found Charlie watching TV. She sat beside him and hesitantly asked, "Charlie, I need an honest answer. Why three skincare sets on this receipt?"

Charlie, realizing it must have been Cameron Isaac’s gift packaging, whispered, "My wife, it's for Dad."

"Dad?" Claire was dumbfounded. "Why would he want high-end skincare?"

Charlie awkwardly said, "I shouldn't have told you, but you're my wife. Promise you won't confront Dad."

Claire gave him a look. "What if you're lying? What if Dad's your backer?"

Charlie said hurriedly, "Do you think I'm that kind of person? I handle things myself!"

Claire nodded. "Okay, tell me."

Charlie explained, "Mom wanted the skincare; then Dad asked for an extra set for Matilda."

"Matilda?!" Claire exclaimed. "His first love?"

"Yes." Charlie smiled.

Claire angrily said, "My dad is still in touch with Matilda?! Mom's back; how can they both be involved?"

Charlie said, "As children, let's stay out of it. Their relationship is complicated."

Claire sighed. "They're not divorced! He should be loyal!"

Charlie shrugged. "You don't understand their situation."

Claire believed Charlie. She felt helpless and said, "If Dad asks for anything for Matilda, don't agree."

Nanako Ito, while visiting Master Kazuki Yamamoto, learned that Victoria, defeated by Aurora, was also at Aurouss Hill People's Hospital. She was shocked to learn Victoria had broken both arms and would retire. The third-place title went to Nanako Ito's opponent, Michelle.
