The Amazing Son-in-Law Chapter 1441
Jacob Wilson didn't eat at home that night. He explained it was a dinner with several leaders from the Calligraphy and Painting Association and key members of the university's senior faculty.
Shortly after nine o'clock, he called Charlie Wade. Charlie was watching television with his wife, Claire, in the living room. Elaine Ma, Charlie's mother-in-law, was applying a caviar anti-aging mask while lounging on the loveseat, scrolling through short videos on her phone. She muttered, "That Japanese girl who came to Aurous Hill for the fighting game, she's really pretty!"
Charlie knew she meant Nanako Ito. His phone vibrated before it even rang. Seeing it was Jacob, he answered, "Hey, Dad."
Jacob's voice was slightly slurred. He chuckled, "Son-in-law, could you come to Heaven Springs and pick me up? I've had a few drinks."
Charlie readily agreed, "Okay, Dad. I'll be right there."
He stood up and told his wife and mother-in-law, "Mom, Claire, I'm going to pick Dad up. He's had drinks with some people from the Calligraphy and Painting Association."
Claire stood up. "Charlie, let me go with you."
Charlie nodded. "Okay, you can drive your car."
When Elaine heard Jacob had been drinking, she grumbled, "That old geezer's getting more and more brazen. Son-in-law, don't bother picking him up. Let him find his own way home. When he gets back, I'll lock the door and not let him in! Let him sleep in the yard!"
Charlie shrugged. "Mom, you and Dad shouldn't be so unhappy. We all live under the same roof. Even if you're not getting along, you should still try to be civil."
Elaine's expression changed. She realized Charlie was talking about her. She thought, Even though Jacob and I are estranged, we still live in Charlie's villa. If I cause trouble with Jacob, Charlie will definitely be unhappy. I can't risk that.
She suppressed her anger, feigning disdain. "Actually, I don't care to be friendly with someone like him. When my leg heals and I get my teeth fixed, I'll go out every day. We'll just avoid each other!"
Charlie smiled. "Okay, mutual respect and avoiding each other – perfect."
Elaine smiled ingratiatingly. "Good son-in-law, you'll have to give your mom some spending money then. I'm practically broke. If I go out to dinner with friends, I can't afford it! I don't want to play with them if I don't have money."
Charlie understood her perfectly. Elaine only cared about money, socializing, playing cards, and looking glamorous. Without money, she couldn't go out because of her leg and damaged teeth. Once she was healed and fixed, she would want to go out constantly, and without money, that would cause problems. Giving her money would be the easiest solution.
He said calmly, "Mom, once your leg heals and teeth are fixed, I'll give you $50,000 a month for spending money."
"Really?" Elaine was overjoyed. $50,000 a month was a lot, even more than she spent when she had $2 million. Her daily expenses were minor – occasional card games, shopping with friends, dinners, karaoke, and occasional clothes and skincare. $50,000 would be plenty.

Excited, she said, "Good son-in-law, why didn't I realize how good you were before?"
Charlie smiled but said nothing. He knew Elaine could be bought with $50,000 a month; he should have done this sooner.
Elaine then turned to Claire, saying earnestly, "Claire, you're not getting any younger, and you've been married to Charlie for almost four years. It's time for you two to have children. Our family of four lives in this big villa, but it's a bit empty. A child would liven things up!"
Charlie was shocked! His mother-in-law had changed completely because of the money! She'd previously forbidden Claire from having any intimacy with him. He remembered an incident where she'd burst into his and Claire's bedroom after having a dream about them getting married and needed to confirm they hadn't. Another time, she'd stopped Claire from going to a hot spring with Loreen, even making Claire wear a nightgown and sleep separately.
He nodded approvingly. "Mom, you're right! Our family needs a child! Or two!"
Elaine laughed. "Actually, three children would be best! Then I'll help take care of them!"
Charlie smiled. "Mom, I'll work hard for you then!"
Elaine said, "Oh, son-in-law, no need for formalities. It’s your duty to have children for us!"
Charlie nodded, glancing at Claire, who was blushing. As long as the money was right, Elaine would be on his side. He said seriously, "Mom, I can't let you work for nothing, so I'll give you an additional $100,000 a month for each child!"
"Oh my god!" Elaine sat up excitedly. "Really?! $100,000 a month per child? $200,000 for two?"
Charlie nodded. "Mom, when I say something, I mean it!"
Elaine was ecstatic. "Good, good!" Turning to Claire, she exclaimed, "Claire, I know an old Chinese doctor with a secret recipe for twins! I'll buy you some to try!"
Elaine knew $50,000 was enough for her usual expenses, but not if she wanted to upgrade her lifestyle. Before, she lost over $2 million gambling and couldn't control the family finances. Jacob wouldn't give her money, Claire wouldn't either, and she had no savings. But if Claire had twins with Charlie, her monthly allowance could increase from $50,000 to $250,000!

Claire was stunned. She hadn't expected Charlie's financial strategy, or its success. She was mortified.
Elaine, seeing Claire's silence, urged, "Good girl, tomorrow I'll take you to the old Chinese doctor for some medicine?"
Claire said helplessly, "Mom, stop talking nonsense!"
Elaine said seriously, "How is this nonsense? I want to hold my grandchildren!"
Claire knew she'd talk endlessly, so she pushed Charlie. "Let's go, and pick Dad up."
Charlie smiled. "Let's pick Dad up first, and we can talk about twins later."
Elaine echoed, "Yes, yes! Let's talk tomorrow!"
Claire practically pushed Charlie out of the house. Outside, she said angrily, "Charlie, why did you tell my mother that"
Charlie smiled. "Wasn't that the goal?"
Claire glared. "Don't think I don't know your ulterior motives! If you want a promotion, do it properly, don't try to manipulate my mother to help you!"
Charlie said cheerfully, "I don't have those motives! Our parents are getting older, and they must want grandchildren."
Claire said embarrassedly, "Just get in the car, let's go!"
Charlie drove Claire's BMW to Heaven Springs. Several elderly people were talking and laughing near the door. Jacob and Matilda stood side-by-side. Jacob looked handsome for his age, and Matilda's grace and appearance were exceptional. They looked perfectly matched. Matilda carried a gift box, the same caviar skincare set Charlie had given Claire and Elaine.
Claire felt uneasy. "You think Dad wouldn't cheat, right?"
Charlie laughed. "My dear wife, where did that come from? Dad and Matilda are old classmates and friends. They're just having dinner together. There's no cheating involved."
Claire nervously said, "But don't forget, they're old lovers! First loves are the easiest to rekindle."
Charlie said, "My dear wife, that's not something we can control. Parents have their own plans, let's not interfere."
A Buick GL8 pulled up. Matilda's son, Paul, got out and greeted the elderly people politely. He handed a gift bag to Matilda, who immediately gave it to Jacob. Jacob seemed surprised and hesitated, but Matilda insisted, so he accepted it with some embarrassment.

Charlie and Claire were some distance away, so they couldn't hear the conversation. It was clear Matilda had asked Paul to get a gift for Jacob.
Claire was even more distressed. "Look at Dad and Matilda, they're like ordinary friends, like a middle-aged couple in love!"
Charlie nodded. He'd noticed their deep affection. Matilda even named her son Paul's Chinese name after Jacob, showing she never forgot him. Jacob, after years of being oppressed by Elaine, deeply missed Matilda. If Elaine hadn't stolen his bank card, he might have reunited with Matilda.
Claire couldn't take it anymore. "Honk twice to remind Dad, or he'll talk for another half hour."
Charlie honked. Jacob saw Claire's car and waved, then said reluctantly to Matilda, "Matilda, my son-in-law's here to pick me up, I have to go."
Matilda said softly, "Text me when you get home, so I don't worry."
"Okay," Jacob said contentedly.
Claire, while Jacob was talking to Matilda, told Charlie, "Dad probably doesn't know I'm here. I'll sit in the back."
She got out and into the back seat. She knew Jacob preferred the passenger seat, so he'd automatically sit there. She wanted to hide because she knew he'd been drinking.
As expected, Jacob greeted Matilda, opened the passenger door, sat down and sang, "I smile smugly, smile smugly"
He smiled at Charlie. "Good son-in-law, thanks for picking me up."
Charlie said, "Dad, no need for formalities."
Jacob patted Charlie's arm. "Thanks for the skincare set. Matilda loved it! It might be the most expensive gift I've ever received for her." He sighed, "I really owe Matilda so much"
Charlie realized Claire was in the back and winked at Jacob, trying to remind him. Jacob, however, was too drunk to notice. He placed the gift bag on his lap and said happily, "Your Auntie Matilda secretly asked Paul to buy me a gift. Let's see what it is."

Jacob thought only he and Charlie were in the car. He wasn't guarded around Charlie, not worried about him knowing about his relationship with Matilda.
He unpacked the gift, sighing, "Son-in-law, you don't know how popular Matilda is at the university! Fans from their 30s to 70s! If I weren't careful, things could get messy."
Charlie awkwardly changed the subject. "Dad, you drank too much. Rest and close your eyes."
"No way," Jacob said. "I haven't seen what you and Auntie gave me yet!"
He opened the inner box. "Wow! A Rolex!"
Charlie glanced and saw a Rolex watch.
Jacob picked it up. "This is the popular green Submariner, right? Isn't it about $180,000?"
Charlie smiled. "Dad, you're wrong… this isn't a Submariner, it's a Yacht-Master Special Edition in 24K gold."
"Yacht-Master Special Edition?" Jacob frowned. "I don't know much about watches. I heard the Submariner is valuable. How much is this?"
Charlie said, "Rolex prices have risen recently. This is probably between $350,000 and $380,000!"
"Wow, so expensive?!" Jacob exclaimed. "A nearly $400,000 watch… that's crazy."
Charlie said casually, "Dad, the skincare set you gave Matilda cost about $390,000. It'll be gone eventually, but this watch, if well-maintained, will last for decades, and it may even increase in value. For example, the Green Submariner, which used to cost $50,000, now costs $100,000."
Jacob nodded, admiring the watch. It was from Matilda, and very significant to him. He put it on, examining it happily. "This watch is beautiful! Matilda loves me so much! Who else would give me such an expensive watch? My mother wouldn't, right Charlie?"
Charlie said, "Haha Dad, you've had too much to drink. Let's rest."
"Rest? No way!" Jacob said. "I'll take some pictures and send them to Matilda to show her how good her taste is."
He took out his phone, which immediately rang. He muttered, "It's Claire. Charlie, don't say anything about Matilda and me having dinner together."
