The Amazing Son-in-Law Chapter 1866

Claire Wilson heard the doorbell ring. Turning her head, she saw Charlie Wade. Surprise and excitement flooded her. “Husband, why are you back today? I thought the video from yesterday meant you’d be gone for two days!”

Charlie Wade smiled. “I wanted to surprise you!”

Claire rushed into his arms. She’d missed him every night since he’d left for Japan. This was unusual for her; she missed him when he went to Eastcliff, but not to this extent. Seeing him unexpectedly, she forgot her usual reserve and hugged him tightly.

Charlie was both delighted and embarrassed. His wife was hugging him in front of his mother-in-law and her parents! He said, “Honey, we can hug later, inside. Your parents are watching.”

Claire blushed, suddenly shy. “We were just watching TV,” she explained. “There was a massacre in Japan a few days ago; over thirty people were killed. It was terrifying!”

“Was it reported in China?” Charlie asked, surprised.

“Yes!” Claire nodded. “Several stations are covering it. They’re even sending troops to arrest suspects at the airport—three busloads of them! The law and order in Japan is terrible. Knowing how chaotic it was, I wouldn’t have let you go!”

Charlie smiled. “I didn’t realize it was that bad, but it was probably just an accident.”

Elaine Ma ran over, overjoyed. “Oh, my dear son-in-law, you’re finally back! I missed you terribly while you were in Japan!”

Jacob Wilson immediately countered, “You didn’t miss Charlie; you missed his gifts!”

Elaine glared at him. “Jacob Wilson, that’s not true! I missed him from the bottom of my heart. Even if he hadn’t brought me anything, I’d still miss him!”

Turning to Charlie, she smiled. “Good son-in-law, did you bring Mom a gift?”

Charlie nodded. “Yes, I brought several.”

He produced his gifts. First, he gave Claire a ring. “My wife, this is for you. Open it!”

Claire gasped. “What is it?”

Charlie smiled. “Open it and see.”

Elaine urged, “Claire, open it! Let Mom see what wonderful gift our good son-in-law has for you!”

Seeing Elaine’s eagerness, Charlie placed his suitcase on the floor, ready to open it. Elaine, unable to contain herself, squatted down. “Oh, my son-in-law, let me help you!”

Charlie smiled helplessly but didn't object. Elaine opened the box, revealing a large men’s briefcase. “This looks like a men’s suit,” she remarked.

Charlie nodded. “It’s a suit for Dad. He’s a standing director of the Painting and Calligraphy Association now. He has social events and needs something more formal.”

Jacob was thrilled. “Oh, Charlie, you’re such a good son-in-law! I’ve wanted a new suit for social events, but couldn’t afford one. Thank you so much!”

Elaine curled her lips, snatched the suit bag, and tossed it at Jacob’s feet. “You’re even worthy of such a fine suit? You don’t even deserve to look at yourself in it!”

Jacob retorted, “Why not? I’m in my early fifties, and not out of shape! Unlike you…”

“What did you say?!” Elaine exploded. “You dare say I’m out of shape?! Are you tired of living?!”

Jacob shrank his neck. “I was joking…”

Elaine glared at him, then turned to Charlie. “Good son-in-law, why buy him a suit? That old thing! The fake Rolex I found for him is good enough!”

Charlie chuckled. “Mom, Dad’s suit wasn’t expensive; it was on sale. My gift for you is much more costly.”

Elaine’s face lit up. “Really? Oh, my good son-in-law loves me! Show me!”

Charlie took out two Tiffany boxes, giving the larger one to Elaine. “Mom, this is for you.”

Elaine saw the Tiffany logo and danced with excitement. “Tiffany! A major international brand!” She eagerly opened it, revealing a diamond bracelet. “I know this bracelet! It costs hundreds of thousands in China! It must have been expensive in Japan!”

Charlie smiled. “Mom likes it; the price doesn't matter.”

Elaine beamed. “My son-in-law is the best!” She immediately put on the bracelet, admiring it. “This Tiffany craftsmanship is exquisite!”

Jacob muttered under his breath but didn’t dare to make a sarcastic comment. Charlie then gave Claire a smaller gift box.

“My wife, this is for you. See if you like it!”

Claire was surprised. “You bought me something too? Husband, you work so hard; you never buy things for yourself. Why do you always buy things for me?”

Elaine chimed in, “Silly girl, Charlie is a perfect husband! He loves and spoils you! Look at your dad, that old miser. When did he ever give me anything valuable?”

Jacob protested, “You controlled the finances! I didn’t even have pocket money!”

Elaine scoffed, “Even if he had no money, a husband would find a way to give gifts to his wife. You always made excuses about not having money! Haven’t you been hiding money for years?”

Jacob picked up his suit. “I won’t argue with you. I’m going to try on this suit! The Painting and Calligraphy Association has an event tomorrow.”

Claire opened her box, revealing a stunning diamond ring. She gasped, covering her mouth.

Elaine’s eyes widened. “My goodness! Such a large diamond! At least three carats?!”

Charlie smiled. “It’s 3.2 carats.”

Elaine’s scalp tingled. “So big?! That’s over a million!”

Charlie smiled. “Eight hundred thousand RMB.”

“Only eight hundred thousand?!” Elaine exclaimed. “My dear son-in-law is so generous! Eight hundred thousand for a diamond ring!”

Claire was shocked. “Charlie, you work so hard. Why buy me something so expensive? It’s a waste!”

Charlie said seriously, “My wife, we’ve been married so long without a ring. Consider this my belated wedding ring!”

Claire’s eyes welled up. “A twenty- or thirty-thousand ring would have been fine. Don’t buy me such expensive things…And you…you always buy things for me and my parents, never yourself!”

Charlie smiled, took her hand, and said seriously, “Claire Wilson, marrying you is my blessing. Thank you for your perseverance. This ring is my way of saying thank you. You must accept it!”

Elaine added, “Daughter, Charlie is so good to you! Have a baby quickly!”

Claire was touched but blushed at her mother’s words. Charlie carefully placed the ring on her finger. “Wife, thank you for being with me all these years!”

The Amazing Son-in-Law Chapter 1869

Tears streamed down Claire’s face. She remembered her grandfather forcing her to marry Charlie. Her family strongly opposed it, but her grandfather made her comply. She'd initially seen the marriage as fulfilling her grandfather's wishes. It didn't matter whether they were compatible or liked each other. They were simply strangers living together.

She'd faced immense pressure because of Charlie's perceived low status. Everyone told her he was trash and that she should divorce him. But she'd chosen to stay, as he'd never done anything wrong. Over time, she'd discovered his positive qualities and developed affection for him, though she'd never truly understood love.

Now, Charlie's heartfelt confession made her heart race. She was deeply moved. Elaine was overjoyed, seeing Charlie as a truly exceptional son-in-law—far better than the rich young men who'd pursued Claire. She reflected on her past mistreatment of Charlie, his unwavering respect and kindness, and his countless times of rescuing her from trouble.

Moreover, Charlie was now successful, owning a Thompson First villa worth over 100 million RMB and two BMWs. He regularly bought expensive gifts for everyone. Such a son-in-law was rare. He was genuinely good and caring, making him even more exceptional.

Elaine said to Claire, “Claire, Charlie’s tired from his late flight. Go to your room, shower together, and go to bed early!”

Claire was startled, blushing. “Mom…what are you talking about…showering together…”

Elaine said, “It’s normal for couples to shower together! Our villa has a luxurious bathtub, perfect for two. You can wash Charlie’s back. It will be great…”

Claire was mortified. Though in her twenties, she was still relatively inexperienced.

Charlie knew his wife was shy and inexperienced. He quickly interjected, “Mom, don’t embarrass her.”

Elaine smiled. “Claire, see? Charlie cares about you!” She stretched. “I’m going to my room to admire my bracelet. You two should rest!”

Jacob emerged from the elevator in his new suit, strutting with a smug look. “Look at me! This suit fits perfectly! I’m still looking good at fifty!”

Jacob did look stylish. He’d maintained his figure, though Charlie knew he wasn’t a fitness enthusiast; Elaine had kept him in shape. He praised Jacob, “Dad, you look forty! You have great style!”

Jacob beamed. “I was a campus heartthrob in college!”

Claire shook her head. “Dad, be humble!”

Jacob scoffed. “I’m one of the best-looking men my age!”

Elaine, feeling uncomfortable, thought, Jacob’s looking good! I’ve gained weight and need to lose it!

She glared at Jacob, then said to Charlie and Claire, “I’m going to my room. You two should rest.”

Claire blushed, “Okay, Mom.”

Jacob said, “Charlie, rest early. You must be tired. Let Claire draw you a bath.”

Claire blushed again, remembering her mother's suggestion, but decided a bath would help Charlie relax. “Charlie, chat with Dad; I’ll draw you a bath.”

Charlie nodded. After Claire and Elaine went upstairs, Jacob made Charlie tea. Charlie’s phone rang—an unfamiliar number from Eastcliff. He excused himself.

In the yard, he answered. “Hello?”

A woman’s voice said enthusiastically, “Charlie, it’s your aunt! I’ve missed you so much!”
