Chapter 1871

Charlie Wade initially believed his aunt's phone call was genuine. He feigned surprise, saying, "Auntie, it's really you? Why did you call?"

Cynthia hadn't planned to call. She'd already instructed Cameron Isaac to inform Charlie to join them for dinner at Shangri-La the following day. However, Mr. Cameron insisted she call personally. This would appear more sincere, especially since they hadn't seen each other in years. A preliminary call served as a warm-up for persuading Charlie to return home.

She smiled and said, "Charlie, Auntie's been thinking of you. I wanted to see you in Aurous Hill, but Stephen Thompson said you weren't ready to come back." She then asked with concern, "How have you been?"

Charlie felt nauseous but politely replied, "I'm fine, thank you for your concern."

Cynthia breathed a sigh of relief, saying, "I'm so glad to hear it!" She continued, "I'm coming to Aurous Hill tomorrow and would like to have dinner with you. Are you free?"

Charlie was surprised. "You're coming to Aurous Hill tomorrow?"

"Yes!" Cynthia replied. "I considered having Cameron tell you, but since we haven't seen each other in years, I called personally."

Charlie smiled. "Okay, tell me what time you'll arrive, and I'll treat you to dinner!"

Cynthia smiled. "Let's have dinner at Shangri-La tomorrow night. I've already made arrangements with Cameron."

"Okay," Charlie agreed. "See you tomorrow night at Shangri-La."

"Wonderful! See you tomorrow!" Cynthia said before hanging up.

Charlie's smile vanished. He harbored no affection for the Wade family—his grandfather, uncle, or aunt. Until he investigated his parents' deaths, the Wade family remained his prime suspect.

Back in his room, Claire had drawn him a bath. After bathing, he went to bed. Claire, like a child eager for a story, asked about his time in Japan. Charlie recounted the events involving the three major families in Tokyo, omitting his deep involvement to protect Claire. He simply told her his clients had connections to these families, giving him inside information. Claire was enthralled by the tale of big families, ninjas, and assassinations.

Chapter 1872

The next day, Claire went to work. Charlie ate breakfast, then spent the day considering Cynthia's visit. Since Stephen Thompson's earlier contact, the Wade family had remained absent from his life—a situation he preferred. Cynthia's call broke the silence, signaling the Wade family's attempt to win him over, for reasons unknown to him.

Even if he refused his aunt, the Wade family wouldn't give up. They would become a persistent problem.

At 5:30 PM, Charlie told his mother-in-law he had a commitment that evening and wouldn't be home for dinner. He took a taxi to Shangri-La, refusing Cameron Isaac's offer of a car ride to avoid suspicion from the Wade family.

Cameron was waiting. "Master, you're here," he said respectfully.

Charlie nodded. "Where's my aunt?"

"She's here," Cameron replied nervously. "She's a little tired. I've arranged a spa treatment for her. It'll take over half an hour."

Charlie smiled. "Take me to the private room."

"You'll be dining in the Sky Garden tonight," Cameron said.

Charlie frowned. He remembered the Sky Garden—the location of his and Claire's fabricated wedding. It was a large, open banquet hall with glass walls, typically reserved for top Shangri-La members. Dining there would inevitably expose him.

"Will there be many guests?" Charlie asked. "Seeing me with her could expose my identity."

Cameron shrugged. "Don't worry. Shangri-La has cleared the entire catering department—all private rooms and the Sky Garden."

Charlie was surprised. "Not just the Sky Garden? The other restaurants are also empty?"

"Yes," Cameron confirmed. "Only you and your aunt will be dining tonight."

Charlie protested, "That's unnecessary. A high-end private room would suffice."

Cameron leaned in and whispered, "Master, you don't know your aunt. She's always been like this." He explained that Cynthia looked down on Aurous Hill and considered dining with locals an insult.

Chapter 1873

The Shangri-La catering department was indeed empty, with most waiters dismissed to avoid upsetting Cynthia. Charlie proceeded to the Sky Garden, where all but one dining table had been removed. This ostentatious display further fueled his displeasure with his aunt's imperial attitude. Despite his wealth, he didn't seek to impress; he found the excessive arrangements repulsive.

Cameron seated Charlie. "Master, please excuse the wait."

"Get her on my phone," Charlie instructed, requesting only boiled water to drink.

While waiting, Charlie received a message from Nanako Ito: "What's Charlie Wade doing?" He replied he was preparing for dinner, then inquired about her well-being. She responded she'd been with her father at the hospital and asked about Claire's ring. They exchanged pleasantries, discussing Mr. Ito's recovery and wishing each other a Happy New Year.

Chapter 1874

Cynthia entered, dressed extravagantly. Charlie recognized some childhood memories in her face. They exchanged pleasantries, with Cynthia noting the resemblance to his father. Cameron discreetly pulled out a chair for Cynthia. However, Charlie's failure to stand when his aunt entered annoyed Cynthia. She felt he lacked proper etiquette.

Cynthia harbored resentment toward Charlie, especially given his sudden reappearance and claim to Wade family assets. She considered him unqualified to rejoin the family, lacking the aristocratic upbringing of other Wade family members. Despite her dislike, she couldn't refuse her father's orders, hoping to secure a share of the family fortune.

Chapter 1875

Cynthia suggested Charlie return home. He agreed vaguely, intending to delay. Cynthia then mentioned his grandfather's generous gift of the Emgrand Group and 10 billion dollars, pressing him to visit. Charlie asked what the Wade family truly wanted. Cynthia admitted the goal was to have him return for the Lunar New Year celebration and cease his activities in Aurous Hill. Charlie pressed for details on the supposed problems. Cynthia simply stated he needed to stop his activities in Aurous Hill.
