Chapter 1910
Elaine Ma suddenly realized she had treated Charlie Wade terribly. She recalled her past arrogance, screaming, bullying, and insulting him, filled with deep regret. "What if Charlie Wade still hates me?" she worried. "This might be my only chance. If he doesn't want me back, I'll be stuck in that brick kiln for life!" Tears streamed down her face.
Donald turned to Cynthia. "Since you claim to be from the Wade family, what proof do you have?"
Corran quickly responded, "My checkbook and signature stamp are in my bag. You can examine them."
"Where's her bag?" Donald demanded, looking at Harold.
Harold retrieved Cynthia's Hermès bag from the van. Donald's heart pounded. Elaine Ma didn't recognize its value, but he did. His wife, Xenia, had attended the Hermès spring show where this bag was the finale piece. It was handmade by Hermès' top artisans, a one-of-a-kind collector's item. Xenia had coveted it, and he'd tried unsuccessfully to purchase it; a top Eastcliff celebrity had already ordered it. He'd even bought Xenia many other Hermès bags to console her.
Seeing the bag again, Donald was instantly convinced of Cynthia's identity. Despair washed over him.
"This is unbelievable!" he exclaimed. "The Wilsons were fawning over me, eager to see Elaine Ma suffer and hoping to see Charlie Wade humiliated. But the Wilson father and son are connected to the eldest daughter of the Wade family?!"
"This is a member of the Wade family! Never mind the Wilsons' audacity—how could someone of her stature be unprotected? She doesn't even have a bodyguard?!"
Harold, presenting Cynthia's bag respectfully, said, "Mr. Webb, I doubt this woman's accusations. She was conspiring with Elaine Ma; Elaine even struck her. A person of her status would surely have bodyguards."
Cynthia interjected, "I did have two bodyguards and an assistant, but I wanted to speak to Elaine Ma privately about Charlie Wade without her knowing my identity. I left them waiting outside the beauty salon." She continued angrily, "I never imagined the salon owner was working with you!"
