Chapter 19: 12
After a pause, Christopher said loudly, "Look, Mr. Webb, if this Cynthia is truly the eldest daughter of the top Eastcliff family, how could she be in Aurous Hill? Besides, what she said about Charlie Wade's background is simply unbelievable! Before he came to our house, he was a lowly construction worker, barely making ends meet! He was practically penniless; he probably couldn't even afford toilet paper back then. How could he be the young master of a wealthy family? Which wealthy family would abandon their child for so many years?"
Donald remained expressionless, offering no response. While Christopher's words seemed plausible, they lacked evidence. However, Donald had just seen Cynthia's checkbook and embossed name stamp. The checkbook was genuine, and the stamp was undeniably authentic.
Coupled with her limited-edition Hermès handbag, it was almost certain she was Cynthia Wade. His immediate concern was what to do with her.
He vehemently doubted Cynthia's story. He couldn't comprehend the mindset of the upper class. She claimed the past couldn't be blamed, yet her first act might have been to kill him.
However, killing her now was too risky. Christopher and Harold's reckless actions—being sent directly here, without changing cars—were alarming. Road monitoring could easily trace their vehicle.
He thought, They'll be here soon! The thought made his scalp tingle.
He then resolved, Since I can't kill her, I must salvage this situation!
He immediately told Christopher, "Come with me."
Christopher nodded eagerly and followed him back to the warehouse.
Entering the warehouse, Donald strode towards Cynthia. He bowed deeply, ashamedly saying, "Madam Wade, this is a terrible misunderstanding. Christopher and Harold intended to teach Charlie Wade's mother-in-law, Elaine Ma, a lesson, but they mistakenly apprehended you. I apologize profusely!"
Cynthia felt immediate relief, almost overcome with emotion.
Harold, surprised, asked, "Mr. Webb, what's going on?"
"What's going on?!" Donald grabbed Harold's collar, slapped him hard, and cursed, "You have the nerve to ask? This is all your father's fault! If you hadn't targeted Elaine Ma, Ms. Wade wouldn't be involved!"
Donald, still shaken, cursed, "Thankfully, I arrived. If you had harmed Ms. Wade, I would have killed you both!"
Harold, dazed, said, "Mr. Webb, we tied up Elaine Ma for you!"
"For me?!" Donald roared, "F*ck you! What does this have to do with me?!"
He then shouted at his bodyguards, "Get this bastard's arms!"
