Chapter 2033
Xion hugged Kairi's waist tightly and exclaimed, "Mom, what are you doing here? How did you get in?"
Seeing that several Japanese soldiers had retreated, Kairi said, "Xion, your father sent me."
"Dad?" Xion asked urgently. "How is he? Is he home? Is he safe?"
Kairi shook her head and said softly, "Don't worry, your father is fine. He returned safely to Eastcliff."
Xion sighed with relief. "It's good that Dad's okay"
Kairi continued, "Your father originally planned to come to Japan to rescue you himself, but he's under strict surveillance by Japanese national security. It's impossible for him to come to Japan again anytime soon, so he sent me."
Xion was confused. "Mom, how did you get in? The Self-Defense Force had me locked up tight. How did they let you in?"
Kairi explained, "The Japanese authorities have extremely tight control over you. Your father made inquiries; they wanted to sentence you and several others to death. He spent a great deal of money and made influential connections within the upper echelons of the Japanese Self-Defense Force to save you!"
"Get me out of here?!" Xion exclaimed, shocked. "This how is that possible? The Self-Defense Force is guarding me closely. There are tens of thousands of soldiers here. How can they get me out?"
Kairi said, "Although you're in Self-Defense Force custody, they don't represent the Japanese judiciary. You still have to stand trial in a Japanese court. According to Japanese law, you'll be transferred to the court where the crime occurred."
"So, we'll be escorted to Tokyo for trial?" Xion asked.
"Right," Kairi nodded. "The Self-Defense Force will use military transport planes to send you back to Tokyo. Once there, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department's Special Operations team will take over. Your father has arranged for a double in Tokyo to switch places with you, with the help of a high-ranking police official."
Xion was dumbfounded. After a long pause, she asked, "Mom, will it be safe to switch places so openly?"
Kairi took her hand and said earnestly, "Don't worry. Your father has arranged for you to be moved twelve hours before the double is discovered. Then he'll arrange for you to leave Japan by boat from Tokyo Harbor."
Kairi squeezed Xion's hand. "Xion, your father spent nearly a billion to secure this, smoothing things over between the Self-Defense Force and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. If you return home safely, you must repay him in the future!"
Tears welled in Xion's eyes. She nodded, choking back sobs. "Mom, don't worry. I'll repay Dad properly!"
Kairi nodded. "Also, after you return to China, the Japanese will try to recapture you. If they know you've returned, they'll apply for your extradition. After you go back, you'll have to live under a different name. You can't use Xion Banks anymore."
Xion asked urgently, "Mom, if I can't use Xion Banks, what should I call myself?"
