Chapter 2037
The Spring Festival Gala, broadcast live to 1.4 billion viewers nationwide, had just concluded. Charlie Wade's family had finished watching Stefanie's performance. Backstage, Stefanie, still in costume, quickly sent Charlie a WeChat message. She was most eager to know his opinion of her performance.
Originally, the Spring Festival Gala's director team had wanted her to sing another one of her popular songs, a piece about friendship. Stefanie had agreed, but after seeing Charlie again, she decided to change her song. She negotiated with the director team, expressing her desire to perform a different piece.
Initially, the director team was hesitant. The Spring Festival Gala was known for its meticulous planning; last-minute song changes were unheard of. However, Stefanie's persistence eventually persuaded them.
She chose to sing "First Love" because she wanted Charlie to hear it. The song contained a line she'd written specifically for him: "From the first time I saw you, you were deeply burned into my heart. I crossed the sea of people and traveled thousands of miles to find you, just to tell you that this life, I will never leave you again."
Charlie, deeply moved, could only reply, "I watched your performance, and it was great! Very well sung!"
Stefanie responded joyfully, "Charlie Wade, this song it was written for you"
Surprised, Charlie asked, "You wrote this song yourself?"
"Yes," Stefanie replied. "I'm the songwriter, so it's okay, right?"
Charlie sent a thumbs-up emoji, exclaiming, "I never thought you were not only a great singer, but also a songwriter! That's amazing!"
Stefanie playfully sent a sticking-out-tongue emoji and explained, "When I was young, I learned piano with my mother. I'd hum along while playing, and slowly started writing songs. After publishing a few, the response was good, so I wrote more."
Charlie heartily praised, "It's truly great! Unbeatable!"
Stefanie smiled, "Charlie Wade, I wrote this song specifically for you a few years ago, before I'd found you. The lyrics were different then. After finding you, I made adjustments."
Touched, Charlie replied, "Thank you, Daisy. Thank you for always remembering me, and for doing so much for me for so many years."
Stefanie sent a shy emoji and said, "It's only natural. I've been your child bride since I was a child"
Charlie was speechless. The term "child bride," though hyperbolic, wasn't entirely inaccurate.
Stefanie then sent another message: "Charlie Wade, I have to go now. My parents are waiting for me for New Year's Eve dinner. I need to leave."
Charlie understood. The Spring Festival Gala's performers faced unique challenges. Those based in Eastcliff could quickly return home, but performers from elsewhere spent the holiday alone.
