Chapter 216

Charlie Wade grinned. โ€œRemember what you said today! I may need you to do something for me in the future!โ€

Albert nodded. โ€œMr. Wade, don't worry! I'll do anything you ask!โ€

Master Lennard, who had been prostrate on the ground, suddenly began weeping and begging for mercy. โ€œBig brother, please let me go! I won't dare do this again. Please forgive me!โ€

Albert sneered. โ€œYou're a phony! I'll teach you a lesson. My men will get you now!โ€

Charlie Wade asked quietly, โ€œHow are you going to handle him?โ€

Albert replied coldly, โ€œI said I'd chop him up and feed him to the dogs! I have a friend who owns a dog shelter. They could probably eat ten scumbags like him!โ€

Master Lennard trembled at Albert's words. โ€œBig brother, I have a family!โ€

Charlie Wade eyed him without compassion. He was a dishonest liar who would only cause more harm. Continuing in the Feng Shui industry, he could cost innocent people their lives. He was a sly liar who deserved to die. Heโ€™d performed the โ€œdragon encapsulation formationโ€ to swindle Jasmine out of her money. If Charlie Wade hadnโ€™t been there, Jasmine would have died. The Moore family owned a large company; its collapse would impact countless people. Jasmine wouldn't be the only one affected.

Charlie Wade felt this sleazebag shouldn't exist.

Soon, Albert's subordinates arrived and dragged Master Lennard away, as he sobbed and wailed about his misfortune. No one sympathized.

Charlie Wade shook his head. Heโ€™d warned Lennard of a bloody calamity. Lennard refused to believe him, and now he'd face the consequences.

After resolving the issue, Albert thanked Charlie Wade and drove him home.

Upon returning, Charlie Wade found Claire Wilson still job hunting. Though he wanted to start a business for her, she seemed uninterested. He didn't want to pressure her or overwhelm her with work. Knowing her determination, he knew she'd push herself too hard.

Chapter 217

The next day at noon, Charlie Wade and Claire Wilson drove to the Maple Hotel. It wasn't the most expensive hotel in Aurouss Hill, but it was one of the most exclusive, reflecting Douglas's generosity. He'd reserved the most expensive dining suite, luxuriously decorated and large enough for twenty people (at a cost of seven to eight thousand dollars).

Many people were already there. Besides Douglas and Loreen, there were several university friends. Loreen hadn't had a good time recently. Sheโ€™d come to Aurouss Hill from Eastcliff to learn about the chairman of Emgrand Group, but hadn't even seen him. After her transfer to the sales department, her chances of meeting him dwindled. She also struggled with her feelings for the mysterious man whoโ€™d rescued her. She felt she'd fallen in love at first sight. She was more eager to see her rescuer than the chairman. She never imagined the chairman and her rescuer were the same personโ€”Charlie Wade.

As Charlie and Claire entered, Douglas greeted them enthusiastically.

Loreen, looking haggard, had an urge to confide in Claire. Grasping Claire's wrists, she whispered, โ€œClaire, I need to tell you something. It's about my mysterious rescuerโ€ฆI think Iโ€™m in love with him! I see him everywhereโ€ฆeven in my dreams, but I can't find him!โ€

Claire shrugged helplessly. Since Loreen's rescue, sheโ€™d wanted to find him, but it felt impossible.

Anxiety washed over Charlie Wade. Had Loreen fallen for him? This was preposterous! He couldn't let her know he was her savior.

Chapter 219

After dinner and drinks, Douglas raised his glass. โ€œThanks for coming, everyone!โ€ He drank it down. Several others joined in.

Charlie Wade sipped his wine. A coquettish woman, Joanne Hampton, said, โ€œDouglas, youโ€™re a big boss now, with your fancy restaurant and two million dollars. You know underworld people, right? Look after us!โ€

A man, Jerry McLean, said, โ€œJoanne, Douglas is our friend. Heโ€™ll help us if we need it.โ€

Charlie Wade recognized them as classmates.

Douglas said sheepishly, โ€œItโ€™s a long story.โ€ He looked at Charlie Wade with gratitude. Heโ€™d almost lost everything to a cheating ex, but Charlie had helped him regain his restaurant and receive a two-million-dollar settlement.

He changed the subject. โ€œJerry, youโ€™re doing well, arenโ€™t you? Six figures a year?โ€

Jerry sighed. โ€œThe company isn't treating me well. Iโ€™m sending my resume to Spikeworth Corps. Remember George Harris? Heโ€™s a senior manager there!โ€

Douglas managed a strained smile. He wasnโ€™t on good terms with George, who wasnโ€™t invited to dinner. Jerry and George were close; if Spikeworth hired him, George could help him.

Loreen said, โ€œSpikeworth has great reviews. Wow, George is doing well.โ€

Claire Wilson was surprised to hear about Spikeworth. After breaking ties with her family, she'd been applying for jobs, including at Spikeworth.

Claire smiled, โ€œI also applied to Spikeworth. We might work together!โ€

Joanne was shocked. โ€œClaire, youโ€™ve always worked for your family. Why Spikeworth?โ€

Claireโ€™s smile faltered. โ€œI cut ties with my family. I need a job to support us.โ€

Joanne eyed Charlie Wade with ridicule. โ€œCharlie, look at your wife. Youโ€™re so worthless, letting her struggle!โ€

Jerry laughed. โ€œCharlie, try your luck at Georgeโ€™s company. Maybe you can be head of cleaning!โ€

Charlie Wade flatly refused.

Jerryโ€™s tone became menacing. โ€œCharlie, youโ€™re arrogant. Get real.โ€

Douglas intervened, โ€œThatโ€™s enough! Donโ€™t bully Charlie.โ€ He apologized to Charlie, โ€œDonโ€™t take it personally. They have sharp tongues.โ€

Joanne retorted, โ€œWeโ€™re frank because Charlieโ€™s always laid-back and passive. He has no ability!โ€

Jerry added disdainfully, โ€œThatโ€™s what a deadbeat loser looks likeโ€ฆโ€

Suddenly, the door burst open. Several burly men in black stormed in. One, a young man with a crew cut and a cigarette, said coldly, โ€œGet out. I want this room.โ€

Jerry scowled. โ€œWhat do you think youโ€™re doing? Weโ€™re having dinner!โ€ He slammed the table. โ€œThis is the Maple Hotel! First come, first served!โ€

The young man, Rambo, slapped Jerry to the floor. โ€œWho do you think you are? Iโ€™m Rambo, Don Albertโ€™s man! Get lost!โ€

Panic flooded Jerryโ€™s eyes. Rambo was notorious.

โ€œIโ€™m sorry, Rambo! Weโ€™ll leave!โ€

Rambo sneered. โ€œWhat are you still doing here? Get out!โ€

Loreen and Claire hid behind Charlie Wade.

Charlie Wade looked at Rambo, his tone cold as ice. โ€œFor Albertโ€™s sake, leave now.โ€

Jerry and Joanne cursed Charlie. He was crazy! That was Rambo Miller, a murderer!

Rambo paused, his expression changing as he recognized Charlie Wade. He asked hesitantly, โ€œYou areโ€ฆCharlie Wade? Mr. Wade?!โ€

Rambo had heard of Charlie Wade.

Charlie Wade said coldly, โ€œIs there another Charlie Wade in Aurouss Hill?โ€

Rambo knelt down. โ€œMr. Wade, Iโ€™m so sorry!โ€

Jerry sputtered, โ€œRambo, thereโ€™s a misunderstanding. Heโ€™s just a loser! You donโ€™t have to address him so formally!โ€

Rambo kicked Jerry. โ€œShut up! How dare you disrespect Mr. Wade! Iโ€™ll kill you!โ€

โ€œAnd you, bitch, how dare you insult Mr. Wade!โ€ Rambo slapped Joanne.

Chapter 220

โ€œThatโ€™s enough, Rambo. Weโ€™re having dinner, get lost!โ€ Charlie Wade dismissed him.

Rambo bowed respectfully and left.

Jerry and Joanne were stunned. Charlie Wade, whom theyโ€™d mocked, was Mr. Wade! There had to be a misunderstanding!

Douglas said sternly, โ€œYou two, watch your mouths! Fortunately, Charlie was here!โ€

Douglas turned to Charlie Wade gratefully. โ€œCharlie, thank you!โ€

Charlie Wade smiled. โ€œMy pleasure.โ€

The next day, Claire Wilson received an interview invitation from Spikeworth Corps. Charlie Wade discreetly called Zeke.

Zeke said respectfully, โ€œMaster Wade, how can I help you?โ€

Charlie Wade said, โ€œMy wife is going to Spikeworth for an interview. Tell me about the company.โ€

Zeke was shocked. โ€œSpikeworth? Thatโ€™s wholly owned by our White family. Miss Wilson applied there? Itโ€™s a waste of her talent. Why donโ€™t I replace the chairman with Miss Wilson?โ€

Charlie Wade was stunned. It was good to know Zeke was on their side, but Claire wanted to prove herself. He said firmly, โ€œNo, donโ€™t do that. Just ensure my wife passes her interview.โ€

โ€œOkay, Master Wade. Iโ€™ll get on it.โ€ Zeke instructed his assistant to notify Spikeworthโ€™s senior management.

At 2 PM, Claire Wilson was preparing for her interview. They needed a taxi, but it was rush hour, and the queue was long.

Claire became anxious. โ€œIf Iโ€™m late, itโ€™ll make a bad impression. I shouldnโ€™t have sent the car for maintenanceโ€ฆโ€

Charlie Wade looked at the long queue. Then a black Rolls-Royce pulled up. It was Zeke.

Zeke was surprised to see them. โ€œMr. Wade, are you waiting for a taxi?โ€

Charlie Wade was amazed. โ€œYes, Iโ€™m taking my wife to Spikeworth for an interview. Why are you here?โ€
