The Amazing Son-in-Law: Chapters 226-230
Chapter 226
Claire Wilson sighed heavily. "It's hard to find work," she said. "I'll keep looking."
"What about Emgrand?"
Claire shook her head. "I can't just come and go as I please."
Charlie Wade sighed. "Honey, maybe you should start your own business!"
"My own business?" Claire asked, surprised. "How?"
"You've been in this market for years. You have connections. Doris Young from Emgrand seems fond of you. Zeke White relies on me for…guidance. I think he'd be supportive."
Claire chuckled wryly. "Dear, we need two to three million dollars in capital, plus ongoing funding. Where would we get that?"
"I'll help with the funding! I know some generous people," Charlie said, smiling. "If you're serious, money isn't a problem."
Claire raised an eyebrow. "Charlie, you have friends in the industry, like Mr. Quinton. Borrowing money will be difficult. It would be less risky to open a small studio and get projects from larger firms."
Charlie replied firmly, "No matter what you decide, I'll be there for you."
Claire nodded gratefully. "I want to start the studio and work my way up. The Wilsons think I can't do anything without the Wilson Group. I want to prove them wrong!"
Charlie smiled gently. "Your husband isn't very skilled, but he can certainly drive and carry your bag."
Claire nodded, touched. This was a big risk. Losing her job would severely impact her family's income. Even a design workshop required rent, equipment, and more—substantial funding. The Wilson Group's influence could also hinder her ability to secure clients.
Charlie's unwavering support warmed her heart. As she pondered this, he said, "Dear, do what you want. If things don't work out, I'll find a job to support you."
Tears welled in Claire's eyes. In this desperate situation, her seemingly "useless" husband still believed in her.
Chapter 227
Inspired by Charlie, Claire tossed and turned all night, planning her business. She was exhausted the next morning.
After quickly freshening up, she said, "I'm going to Millennium Enterprise. I can't be late."
"Millennium Enterprise? Another meeting?" Charlie asked.
Claire shook her head. "I'm going to look for projects."
"Fantastic!" Charlie grinned. "If you start a construction firm, I'll be your first employee."
"Funds and connections are crucial," Claire said. "I want to start small, drawing designs for construction firms."
Charlie chuckled. "Money and connections aren't a problem. I could help you start a business today."
Claire firmly declined. "I want to try it myself. Besides, what resources could you possibly have? Starting a construction business isn't child's play."
"I'm serious. I have the money and the connections." Emgrand Group's investment covered almost 70% of Aurouss Hilll's businesses. Securing projects would be easy.
Claire thought he was joking. "You don't know anything about the construction market. I'll handle the investment."
To register a construction business required at least ten million dollars in startup capital, plus substantial operating funds. Even if Charlie had the money, he lacked the industry connections. Charlie was surprised by her refusal to use his resources.
Just as Claire left, Elaine Ma, her mother, returned. Relying on the Wilson Group's pension, she'd visited them frequently. While Claire had severed ties, Elaine wanted reconciliation.
"Where did Claire go?"
"To look for freelance work."
"Freelance work?!" Elaine huffed. "It was a misunderstanding! We're the laughingstock of the city!"
Jacob Wilson stared at Elaine, confused. "Honey, did you hit your head? Are you out of your mind?"
"No!" Elaine roared, throwing herself onto the sofa. "Tomorrow, we apologize to Lady Wilson! Blood is thicker than water! We've become a joke!"
Jacob blazed at her. "They wanted to sell my house and steal Charlie's villa! They never considered me family!"
Elaine grew angrier at Jacob's stubbornness. She turned to Charlie. "Charlie, your father-in-law is stubborn. They're mother and son, brothers. Family quarrels are easily mended! I need the Wilson Group for my pension!"
Jacob yelled, "They wanted to take my house and Charlie's villa! They wanted Claire to divorce Charlie and marry someone else! How could you believe them?!"
Charlie, caught in the middle, quickly excused himself. "Claire asked me to pick her up. I have to go."
Chapter 228
Charlie escaped the escalating argument. He went to a coffee shop to relax.
On a busy street, he spotted Claire across the street at an upscale restaurant. A middle-aged man in a suit sat opposite her. Claire seemed to be presenting her portfolio, trying to secure a project. The man seemed uninterested and even tried to inappropriately touch her hand.
Charlie's blood boiled. He paid his bill and rushed across the street.
Chapter 229
At Little Italy, Claire politely pitched her business plan to Mr. Murray. He gave vague answers. Seeing her disappointment, he suggested a dinner meeting to "understand each other better." He extended his hand.
His name was Peter Murray. He'd heard of Claire and was eager to meet her. He was thrilled at this opportunity.
As Murray reached for Claire's hand, Charlie intervened, grabbing Murray's hand firmly. Murray was shocked. Claire explained that Charlie was her husband.
Murray's face darkened. Charlie recognized him as the head of Millennium Enterprise. He called Murray a "lecherous, dirty old man."
Murray tried to pull away, but Charlie's grip was strong. Claire asked Charlie to let go.
Murray, his hand hurting, demanded Charlie leave. Claire insisted he was not an outsider. She whispered to Charlie to go home, but Charlie refused.
Murray, dismissing Charlie as the Wilson family's "live-in son-in-law," belittled him and suggested he get a job.
Chapter 230
Claire defended Charlie, saying he helped a lot at home, and asked Murray to address her formally. Murray continued his sarcastic remarks, suggesting Charlie become a security guard. He even suggested Claire divorce Charlie.
Charlie, unfazed, calmly remarked on Murray's lack of morals. He then threw a bowl of mushroom soup over Murray's head.
Claire was shocked but quickly apologized. Murray was furious and called for backup. Claire pleaded with Charlie to leave, explaining Murray's influence in the construction industry. Charlie refused, stating he didn't care. Claire stressed the importance of Murray's investment and connections, urging Charlie to leave.
