Chapter 266

Did this mean she wouldn't let her best friend down if she were in love with Charlie Wade? Perhaps her best friend would even be relieved if she got together with Charlie! Thinking this, Loreen hurriedly said, “Thank you for your help, Charlie Wade!”

Charlie Wade smiled. “No trouble at all.”

His smile made Loreen’s heart race. Although she knew it was inappropriate, given he was her friend's husband, she couldn't help having odd thoughts due to her emotions.

Charlie Wade, unaware of her turmoil, readily gave her his number.

Zachary then stepped forward, flattering him: “Mr. Wade, you're incredible! Even the Butcher Brothers couldn't defeat you. You're a god among men!” He quickly bowed.

Charlie Wade looked at him coolly. “Zachary, did you try to flee because you thought I couldn't defeat the Butcher Brothers?”

Zachary’s demeanor changed instantly. “Mr. Wade, you’ve misunderstood. I was just confused…” He shivered. “Mr. Wade, you’re a god! From now on, I’ll only pray to you!”

Claire shook her head helplessly. “What should we do? You eliminated the Butcher Brothers. Should we call the police?”

Charlie Wade thought for a moment. “Get in the car first. I’ll handle this.”

Claire, Loreen, and Zachary got in the car. After watching them leave, Charlie called Isaac, the Wade family’s agent and head of Paradise.

Isaac respectfully greeted him: “Mr. Wade, what can I do for you?”

Charlie calmly replied, “I encountered the Butcher Brothers. They attacked me, and now they’re dead, beside a remote road.”

Isaac gasped. “Mr. Wade, you killed the notorious Butcher Brothers? They’re ruthless, and no one could defeat them!” He was thrilled. “Mr. Wade, you’re remarkable! The Wade family will be in an uproar!”

Charlie said calmly, “Keep it to yourself. If the Wade family finds out, I’ll never forgive you!”

Isaac agreed. “Okay, Mr. Wade. I’ll send someone to handle it immediately.”

Charlie hung up, walked to the car, started the engine calmly, and drove away. Loreen, in the back seat, couldn't stop staring at him. The more she looked, the more she realized she was falling in love with him.

Chapter 267

As they drove into the city, the storm subsided. A spring breeze dispersed the clouds, revealing a rainbow. Everyone looked up in awe.

Charlie dropped Zachary off at the antique market. Zachary bowed respectfully. “Thank you, Master Wade!”

Charlie said flatly, “Zach, don’t tell anyone about today, understand?”

“Yes, Master Wade,” Zachary replied, awestruck. He watched until the car was out of sight.

Charlie then drove Loreen to her hotel in Paradise, a Wade family property with top-notch security.

Loreen gave Charlie a complicated look during the ride. She wanted to thank him, apologize, and express her regret for misjudging him, but couldn't do so in front of Claire.

When they reached the lobby, Claire hugged Loreen. “Loreen, call Charlie if you’re in trouble.”

“Don’t worry,” Loreen replied.

Charlie was slightly jealous seeing Claire hug Loreen. He noticed Loreen’s envious stare at Claire. He decided to provide Loreen as much protection as possible. "If anyone dares to attack Loreen again, I'll wipe them off the face of the earth!" he thought.

Back home, Claire showered. Charlie gave Jacob the money Zachary had given him.

Jacob laughed triumphantly. “Haha! This is just the beginning! Next time, I’ll make 3 million!”

Charlie thought, “Sigh, my father-in-law, please spare Zachary. He’s already lost 300,000 to you!”

Charlie cleared his throat. “Dad, you shouldn’t deal with Zachary so often. He’ll take advantage of you eventually.”

Jacob scoffed. “Hush! You always talk nonsense! We’re running a serious antique business!”

Chapter 268

Charlie shook his head and returned to his room. Claire, in lavender silk pajamas, was lying on the bed. Charlie felt his throat go dry.

Claire blushed, noticing his intense gaze. “Stop looking at me like that!”

Charlie grinned sheepishly. “Sweetheart, you’re so beautiful.”

Claire rolled her eyes, but there was a spark of delight in her eyes. She was amazed by Charlie’s strength.

She asked, “Charlie, how did you become so powerful? You beat the Butcher Brothers so easily.”

Charlie smiled smugly. “It’s a secret…unless you let me kiss you.”

Claire smacked her lips. “Dream on!”

Charlie turned to get the quilt, but the closet was empty.

“Sweetheart, where’s my quilt?” Charlie asked.

Claire gasped. “I threw it in the washing machine.”

Charlie sighed. “I can’t sleep on the floor without it. I’ll sleep on the sofa.”

“Pinhead,” Claire teased, getting her quilt for him.

Charlie inhaled the faint fragrance of her quilt. “Sweetheart, you’re so nice to me.”

Claire glanced at him and huffed, “Let’s go to sleep.”

Charlie, hugging the quilt, felt excited. Then Claire said, “I’ll be busy at my studio for two days. Stay home and keep Dad busy, okay?”

“Why don’t I help you at your studio? I can clean, vacuum, and make coffee!”

Claire grinned. “You don’t need to. There’s nothing you can help with.”

Chapter 269

Claire went to her new studio. Charlie went to the wet market to buy healthy ingredients for Claire.

He bumped into Loreen.

“Charlie Wade!” Loreen exclaimed.

Charlie was surprised. “Hey, Loreen, what a coincidence!”

Loreen mumbled, “I…um…I’m here to thank you for saving me the other day.”

Charlie smiled. “It’s my pleasure. You’re Claire’s friend.”

He sensed something was off.

Loreen cleared her throat. “I…I know you saved me a few days ago at the Aurous Diner.”

Charlie’s heart skipped a beat. How did she know? He quickly denied it.

Loreen looked at him with complex emotions: grievance, passion, and resentment. She explained how he'd saved her at the diner.

Charlie’s face turned green. He couldn't admit to it. All hell would break loose if Claire found out!

“Loreen, there must be a misunderstanding. I saved you only yesterday!”

Loreen showed him the peace and wealth stone.

Charlie stared at it in disbelief. Wasn’t this the stone he’d lost?

Chapter 270

Loreen had picked it up.

Charlie sheepishly said, “What do you mean?”

Loreen said sternly, “Don’t lie to me! Zachary told me this stone is yours!”

Charlie cursed Zachary for spilling the beans. He could only admit he saved her at the Aurous Diner. “Please don’t tell Claire!”

An uncomfortable silence followed.

Loreen gazed intensely at Charlie. She finally mustered the courage to confess her love.

“Charlie Wade, I love you!”

Charlie took a step back. “Loreen, I’m your friend’s husband…”

Loreen gritted her teeth. “So what? I know you and Claire have no feelings for each other! I’m willing to do anything for you.”

Charlie pulled his hand away. “Loreen, it’s impossible. I can’t betray Claire. This is just a temporary impulse.”

Loreen persisted. “No, I’ve thought about it all night. I fell in love with you after you saved me the first time, and even more after the second!” She shouted, "I love you! If you're with me, I'll never let anyone look down on you! I'll support you forever!"

Charlie managed a bitter smile. He knew she didn’t know his true identity. He couldn’t reveal it.

Loreen kept her gaze on him. “It doesn’t matter if you reject me now. I won’t give up. I’ll prove I love you more than Claire, and I’m a better partner! I want to follow you for life, even if I’m just your secret lover!”

Charlie sighed helplessly. “Loreen, you’re not thinking straight.”

He quickly rode away on his scooter. He thought she'd get over it in a couple of days.

But Loreen's eyes remained determined. “Loreen Thomas, don’t back down, you can do it!”
